Looking down at my watch for what felt like the hundredth time, I quickened my pace realizing I was running a bit late. Kattie specifically texted me a little over an hour ago saying she wanted me to be the first one there, but here I am running twenty minutes late.

I rolled my eyes jumping into a taxi and made my way downtown towards the bar. I was early for the party still so she shouldn't be too mad at me. People weren't supposed to be arriving for another fifteen minutes. Kattie had the personality trait of an electronic surge, a nonstop spark bouncing around like some hyperactive child. She micromanaged everything while I just bumbled around. Guess we balanced each other in that way.

The taxi halted abruptly in front of the venue as I took in a deep breath grabbing hold of my bag. I could already hear the blaring music from outside pulling the black strap of my purse over my shoulder. As soon as I walked through the entryway I was greeted with an extremely large man.

"Name?"

"Oh I'm sorry, I'm here for Kattie's party?"

"Not what I asked kid..."

My eyes widened in embarrassment as I looked down at his clipboard. I wish I was even a bit surprised that Kattie would have a bouncer...

"Ami" I say quickly as he nodded his head letting me past.

Once I was finally past the large brute I immediately saw Kattie rushing around the bar placing things, shifting them, then replacing them in the same spot she started with. I shake my head before approaching her.

"Happy Birthday Kattie," I say already bracing myself for her to yell at me for being late

"WHAT THE HELL AMI! I TOLD - "

"I know I know" I chuckled shrugging my shoulders giving her a half-smile which makes her laugh.

"Well some people are already here, but it seemed like more are walking in now. How on earth is my best friend late to my party?"

"Bad traffic?"

Kattie rolls her eyes before taking hold of my hand

"Now that you're finally here... let's get this party started!"

I laugh as she leads me to the edge of the bar as the bartender lines up a row of four shots. My eyes widen as I look over to Kattie. She gives a slight shrug before handing me my two servings.

"You owe me! Plus you need this, hell the way Haruto acted like such an asshole!"

I felt my face drop from the mention of his name. She was right, I did need this. For the first time, I felt pretty confident in what I was wearing and I had my best friend beside me. Why shouldn't I enjoy the night? Giving her a nod I hold up the first shot to cheers her and she squeals in excitement before holding her cup up.

Before I knew it the night had quickly progressed and the crowd around me began to get thicker. I was seeing so many people at once. Friends from high school, college, it was overwhelming in the best way.

"So where's Haruto Ami?" Kattie and my mutual friend Margret said.

"Fuck that guy!" Kattie yelled taking another sip of my drink

Giving a laugh at Katties clearly tipsy response I give a shrug and a smile, "Just didn't work out is all...no hard feelings."

I knew my facial expression said otherwise but Margret smiled putting an arm around me.

"Forget him! So many cute guys are around here..."

I nod bringing my drink to my mouth again taking a big sip.

"I'll be right back, watch Kattie for me I need to use the bathroom..."

Margaret nodded before I made my way to the back.

I really didn't need to use the restroom, but I couldn't talk about Haruto anymore. He clearly chose someone else. Pushing open the bathroom door I made my way to the mirror to fix my hair. Setting down my drink I began running my fingers through my hair before making eye contact with myself.

What the hell is wrong with me? Why wasn't I good enough?

Shaking my head abruptly I reach for my drink and quickly throw it back. It was as if I wanted the drink to wash away every negative thought I was having like it washed down my mouth and throat. It didn't have the effect I expected, but my head did feel lighter. I smile to myself before making my way back out of the bathroom.

The party was in full swing as I pushed through crowds of people. I could see Kattie and Margret, but I needed to push through a few more people before I made it to them. As bodies pressed against me I quickly squeezed my way towards them. That is until one body wouldn't move. If it wasn't for the liquor I probably wouldn't have been so confrontational.

"Hey! Can you move!"

The figure looked around for the voice, I was significantly shorter than everyone before they turned all the way around.

"Well well, fancy seeing you here" Bakugou chuckled which made my stomach flip.

"Oh- yeah sorry"

"What are you always sorry?" He smiled which made the corners of my mouth curl up mimicking his expression "I didn't know you knew Kattie?"

"Are you serious? She's my best friend! How do you know her?"

"She's an old friend from childhood, is she still the same hyperactive child?"

I laugh from his perfect description.

"I think she may even be more hyper"

"Well fuck, where is she anyways I haven't been able to find her in this mess of people..."

"I'm actually headed to her now if you want to help me push through the crowd?"

"It would be my pleasure" Bakugou gave a side grin that looked pleased but had a hint of cockiness before he grabbed hold of my wrist pulling me closer to his side.

I was instantly met with the smell of his cologne which resembled a teakwood that made me feel lightheaded. I felt his head inched from my left side as he whispered in my ear.

"Lead the way and I'll do the rest"

A wave of goose flesh rose down my neck and back as I nodded. It was the only thing I could do before I stepped forward.

"ALRIGHT LOSERS GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR WAY! MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! STEP ASIDE DWEEB!!!"

Bakugou yelled like that the whole way, and what shocked me more was that people listened. They practically jumped to get out of his way. It was hysterical and caused me to laugh out loud the whole way. Before I knew it we were already there. Kattie and Margaret looked at us wide-eyed as we arrived laughing like we had some inside joke hidden from the rest of the world.

"Well look at this! My best friend and my childhood playmate hitting it off!" Kattie was giggling and clapping like a little girl. She practically jumped into our arms which made me laugh as I look up at Bakugou who was rolling his eyes at her.

"Yeah small fucking world yada yada"

Kattie quickly put on a childlike pouty fact, "Don't be so mean Katuski! You're always so rude!"

"I wouldn't call it rude. I would say I am a realist, someone who tells it like it is," He chuckled before ruffling up her hair looking at me from the side of his eyes.

I felt my heart flutter a bit and it excited me. I hadn't felt this way in a long time, it was all new and fresh.

"So you all want a drink or what?" Bakugou said smiling as we all raised our hands laughing. He turned around to order as I felt a sharp pain in my side. Turning to my left I saw Margret raising her eyebrows at me.

"Oh stop," I laugh

"I didn't say anything," she said in a sing-songy way

Bakugou turned back around handing everyone their drink before we clinked out glasses together. Bringing the drink to my lips I accidentally made eye contact with Bakugou and he gave me a wink that caused a blush to spread across my face. Who did this guy think he was?
