There was yelling everywhere. It was chaos. America ducked, narrowly missing a shoe that was thrown across the living room. He slipped past a raging Australia arguing with Canada about adopting another pet spider. Seems he wanted to call it Pat. Canada disapproved.
He bolted out of the door, avoiding the dog lazing on their front porch. He stepped over paws and relaxed as he smiled to himself. It was the end of summer break now, meaning he had to go back to school. The weather was still pretty warm. Besides, they were having their secondary gender tests sometime this week. He was pretty excited to find out if he was an alpha. It seemed to run in the family. His 2 older brothers, Canada and Australia were both Alphas so were his mom and dad.
"Amee!" America caught a flying furball heading his way, laughing as he spun them around before halting to see a huffing Japan catching up to them.
"Good morning Neko and Japan." America chuckled as he set Neko down on the pavement gently.
"Morning, America," Japan replied, finally catching his breath.
"Ready to find out your secondary genders?" America smiled widely as he started a conversation.
Nekomi squealed, "OMG! Yes! I can't wait. I hope I'm not an omega. I pity people who are omegas, life must be so hard."
"Yea.." Japan nodded solemnly, "I'm not too enthusiastic. Dad wants me to be an alpha. I'm not sure I can live up to it."
"I'm sure you can Jap! You're like the smartest and one of the fittest countries in our school!" America reassured a jittery Japan.
"Ame is right! You're definitely gonna be an alpha. No doubt." Neko grinned. Japan laughed heartily.
"Thanks, guys. What about you America?"
Nekomi and Japan looked to America.
"Uh well... I think it'll be good if I could be an alpha. But I don't mind beta either. Just alpha blood kinda runs in the family."
Japan's eyes suddenly lit up, "Oh right! Your 2 older brothers are both Alphas, they're really amazing."
"Yea haha." America nodded.
"Oh, we're here, see ya later Ame-kun!" Neko bid America goodbye before dragging Japan to their classroom.
"Bye.." America waved as he turned around, crashing right into a very soft and warm wall. Oh, wait it was someone.
He gulped as he backed away to look up at the immensely tall figure. His neck hurt from just looking up. He didn't recognize this country. He was in his class though. America just never bothered to talk to him. He didn't either.
"O-oh, uh sorry man." he looked to the ground to see a pile of books and textbooks sprawled on the ground.
He quickly bent down and arranged them neatly. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw the country do the same. He handed the pile of books back to the tall ass country and nodded apologetically before hurrying off. Well, that was awkward.
'102, 102...there.' America thought to himself as he searched for his classroom, finding it pretty easily. He opened the door and settled into his assigned seat from the previous term. He glanced around there were only a few other people and some countries scattered around the classroom.
None of them was really his good friend. he frowned. Until South Korea walked in humming, headphones plugged in. Upon spotting America, he sped over, grinning.
"Ame!"
"South! How you been my dude?" America smirked as he and South Korea fist-bumped.
South Korea plopped down in his seat behind America. America turned around to talk to him.
"Ugh. Summer break was terrible with North." South whined. America giggled at Souths whining.
"Sounds about right."
"How was yours?" South beamed as he glanced up at America.
"Uh boring. You know homework and then hang out with friends." America shrugged.
"Damn. Guess nothing interesting really happens during summer break." South sighed, slumping onto the desk.
America hummed in agreement. He jumped when South shot back up.
"I just realised! This week is the secondary gender test!" South exclaimed a little too loud, drawing attention. South grimaced as he smiled at the people in the class and mouthed a sorry.
"Yep. " America nodded. America noticed the country he had bumped into earlier enter the classroom.
"I can't wait. If I'm an alpha I'm gonna rub it in my brother's face." South grinned to himself. This drew America's attention back to South.
"Invite me over when you do that." America laughed and South nodded.
"Sure will!" South remarked as the bell rang and the teacher started class.
After sorting out basic affairs, the teacher made a rather important announcement.
"Okay, class, today after school, the entire school will be participating in a health test for your secondary gender. Results will only come out the next few days. Delays can be expected. You will be tested by class. So after school remember to head to the school gym."
The entire class began to buzz with excitement. The teacher cleared her throat, everyone went quiet.
"I will expect everyone to be in the school gym 20 minutes after school has ended. That's all for now, you may get to your class now." She sighed as she got up and left.
The moment, she was out of sight, the class erupted into chatter. Students rushed to join their friend groups to talk before the next lesson began.
America pulled out his phone to check his schedule. The first period of the day was math. He frowned. South seemed to pick on that.
"Math, huh?"
America just silently slumped over his desk. South took that as a yes.
