On a Saturday morning near summertime, Coy invited Safiye to his house out of his fear of losing her to Renato. He wasn't clear on how to do it, nor what words to use, but he had to do something to save her from her greatest mistake. Deep down he knew he had already lost, he learned it the moment she walked into the classroom; on the first Monday after he appeared at one of her dates, and in her eyes, he could see how distant she was, how different she had become with Renato, so he had to do what every person that has lost a battle does, refuse to give up and die fighting.
Coy sat near the window in the living room, and once he spotted Safiye walking towards the entrance; he stood and walked out to the front of his porch. Safiye knew what was to come, she could sense it was the day her friendship ended, even before listening to Coy she had already made a choice.
They sat in front of one another in two separate chairs that kept them ten feet apart, "What is it?" She asked because from somewhere it all had to start, "You are very smart, though I don't know what lately is happening to you, you already know what I'm going to say" Coy said crossing his arms, unconsciously Safiye mimicking him, "That's not the best way to start, don't you think?" She said, "You're not safe with Renato" "You don't even know who are you talking about," Safiye said uncrossing her arms getting ready to leave, but he stood as well, "Neither you," He said, causing her to freeze in front of him, touching a fact she deeply buried in her unconscious because she preferred the myth, "He is a random stranger that approached your life. I can guarantee you; you know nothing, and the only thing I see is you trusting him as if you had known him all your life as if he was me. I love you and I want what's best for you" The last words of his argument made the whole thing lose meaning, as he just refreshed Renato's words in her mind, and she felt secure in her lie again as if it was the truth.
"All you love is yourself and want what's convenient for you. You are a jealous kid who only wants me because someone else is now in my life. What you did in the theater wasn't an accident, you did it on purpose to sabotage my moment with Renato." With each word her voice got louder and louder as it always did when she was afraid, because she had the mechanism of always asking for help, screaming for it, but never fighting for herself. "No shit, Sherlock!" He raised his voice just like her for his frustration, "How can you tell my intentions but can't see his!?" He said, passing a hand through his hair almost stopping to pull it, "The only good thing that would come out of your relationship is you getting fuck by him and than thrown away like trash. He could be a fucking psychopath and you receive him almost with your legs open, stop acting like a whore" Slap.
It all went down in one second. Neither could tell in what moment Safiye raised her hand to slap Coy across his face, nor when she grew tall to reach him. The echo of it played in each other's hearts breaking it. The tears that fell from their eyes stained their soul. And the pain from the moment, greater than the ache in her hand and in his face, remained with them for the rest of their lives, buried in their memories to surge from time to time, to haunt them.
Renato prolonged the darkness of the night by keeping the windows, the curtain, and the door completely shut. The only light that could bother him was the one that broke into the room from the gap between the floor and the door, and at the edge of the curtain. He sat in the middle of the room, not feeling the coldness of the floor against his already cold skin. He laid over his back and his head fell over his right and he focused on that small gap of light between the floor and the door as he frowned. His mind had always been in a peaceful state of evil, where the voice of the conscious was long murder and replace by a demon. But there was a new voice that found its way on his head after his kiss with Safiye; that has haunted him like a ghost in the emptiness of his heart and mind. A voice which screams resounded on his head and in the room only getting louder and louder, lamenting, pleading him, to not kill Safiye. But every time he doubted his goal, rage possessed him, and it was more than clear that he needed, for certain, get rid of her. He decided it was time to call Billy, a man lost on the point of no return and with his spirit consumed by his demons.
