I woke up to a shooting a pain in my chest and a face I don't recognize. "Who are you?" I choke out. When I speak I realize that she wasn't looking at me but past me. She jumps when I speak. "I'm the girl who saved your life," she says looking down at me for the first time since I've been awake. "Well thank you for that, but that doesn't answer my question. Who are you?" I say grinding my teeth with frustration and pain. She looks at me like I've got two heads with a bit of hurt in her eyes "You mean you don't know who I am?"
"Well I wouldn't be asking if I did now would I?" I shoot back with a hint of frustration in my voice. "Well I'm hurt that you don't remember me Ray." I search her face and realize that her platinum blonde hair and jade green eyes are familiar to me "Lilith?" I ask hesitantly. She breaks out into a smile.
"I knew you'd remember me!" she squeals and hugs me hard. I gasp wen she does but hug her back.
"It's so good to see you again," I hold her at arms length from me "But I thought you left when the gangs moved in?"
"I did, but when I heard you had gotten shot I had to come see you,". You see Lilith and I were together when the gangs moved in and I don't think we ever split up after she left.
"I'm glad you came back and I'm sorry it took me getting shot for it to happen but I have a question,". She looks at me with that look that melts my heart.
"Ask me anything," she says smiling like she already knows what I'm going to ask.
" Well when you left we never decided if we were going to split up, so?" She looks at me and moves in close and softly kisses me. "Does that answer your question?" she asks when she pulls away.
I smile and laugh a bit "Well it proves you'll still kiss me but are we still together Lilith?" I ask smiling already knowing jer answer.
"Yes we are Ray, and we always have been even after I left." I smile when she says that. I reach out and take her hand and squeeze it softly. After a bit the doctor and Al come into the room.
"Well kid you are very lucky," Al said when he sees me sitting up.
"I don't feel lucky, Al," and Lilith slaps my arm playfully "ok so maybe I'm pretty lucky." The doctor laughs and introduces himself as Dr. Andrews. "Well kid you're actually quite lucky to be alive but the bullet was small caliber and it went through and through cleanly with no major damage." I look at the doctor and ask "What do you want from me?"
"Well Al tells me that you risked your life for the president, and we need someone like you to protect the world." I look at him and sigh.
"What happens if I don't doc, what then?"
"Well you'll never walk again," Dr. Andrews states casually.
"Alright, fine."
"Alright, fine what?"
"I'll do it, when do we start?"
"Right now."
