April 2007

Scarborough, Toronto Ontario, Canada

Genesis groaned when she heard her phone ring. She looked up from her textbook and stretched her legs, before reaching over and picking up her Blackberry phone from the other side of the bed and flipping it open.

"Hello?"

"City Morgue, you kill 'em, we chill 'em."

She sighed, irritated.

"Lamar, quit calling my phone. Can't even say hello like a normal ass person."

"Ok ok, my bad. What's up witchu?"

"I'm trying to study. I got a test on Tuesday."

"It's Friday."

"And?"

"Why are you studying on a Friday night? Loser."

"You got 5 seconds to get off my phone."

"The truth hurts, don't it?"

"5."

"Ok ok, fine. I was wondering if you wanted to hang tonight."

Genesis paused. It had been a month since she met Lamar and Abel for the first time, and while she wasn't very close with Abel, she had become close friends with Lamar. Abel was quiet and shy at times, and so Genesis didn't establish a strong relationship with him. She just assumed that he didn't want to be friends.

She sighed. "Where?"

"At my house."

"With whom?"

"Are you Shakespeare? Who the hell says 'whom'?"

"4."

"Whatever, my 5 seconds was up 5 seconds ago."

"Bye, Taylor."

"Fine, look, it's at my house, and Abel says he might come too."

"He might? He's always at your house."

"Yeah but his mom doesn't want him going anywhere any more. It has something to do with his grades."

"Are they bad?"

"They're hideous." He stopped himself. "Don't tell him I said that."

Genesis laughed. "Sure."

"Promise me you won't say anything."

"I ain't promising you shit."

"You difficult as hell."

"Then get off my phone, nigga."

He sighs, becoming irritated himself. "Ion know why I keep messing with you. It's just the goodness of my heart. I'm too nice to people."
