One lie is enough to question all truths.”

Her hand drifted over the counter, her touch feather light. She lifted her hand so it was level with her eyes and studied the specks of dust. This house hadn’t been lived in for a while. But, according to the footprints, somebody had come here recently.

She followed the footprints as they took her upstairs. Her eyes widened in surprise when they entered what used to be her old room. Hunching her shoulders defensively, she took a deep breath before entering the room, prepared for the memories which would surely attack her. But nothing could have prepared her for what she saw when she entered the room.

The breath whooshed out of her, and she choked on her saliva. The sight before her was gruesome. The body of her mother lay mutilated on the ground before her. Miranda’s (her mother) eyelids were torn, one of her eye’s unseeing whilst the other one had a knife protruding from it. An arm had been chopped off, the hand in her mouth. Her left ear had been cut off as well, her nose resting on top of it as they both sat on her forehead. The name Diablo was carved into her right cheek, the name James on her left. Their last name Candor had made its home on her chin.

Alexa promptly turned and fled. She had to find Hayley.

“Oh, dear. Are you okay?” The nurse asked.

“Yes,” Alexa repeated for the fifth time from her perch on the bed.

“You’re sure?” Before Alexa could chew her head off, the door was thrown open and in rushed Zhang.

He gasped, his eyes widening comically. “Darling!” He exclaimed. “How could the school let something like this happen?”

Alexa had to give him props, he was a good actor. Though the ‘darling’ part did sound a tad bit stupid.

“I assure you sir, this is not a usual occurrence,” the middle-aged nurse assured him, glancing worriedly at Alexa as if she thought Alexa would suddenly pass out.

Zhang dragged a worried hand through his hair, and the nurse’s eyes flew to his newly dyed red hair, and her jaw dropped open.

Hadn’t she ever seen an Asian guy with colorful hair? The nurse obviously hadn’t heard of EXO.

“Well, I expect nothing of this sort to ever happen again,” Zhang ordered. “Let’s go, Alexandra.”

She jumped off the bed with ease, grabbed her bag off the floor, and threw a tight lipped smile at the nurse before getting the hell out of there. Alexa quickly jogged up to Zhang who was practically brisk walking through the crowds of teenagers. “Dude, slow down. I’m a patient.”

Zhang rolled his eyes. “Right. You get shot, but you don’t consider yourself a patient then, but when a bullet skims past you, you’re a patient? How does that work?” He mumbled quietly, but loud enough for her to hear.

“Well, you see,” Alexa started off, but a throat clearing cut off her moment of showing Zhang her beautiful logic.

Both Zhang and Alexa turned around to face Xander. “Yes?” She asked, standing stock still, resisting the flow of teenagers.

He glanced at Zhang before returning his attention to her. “Can I speak to you in private for a moment?”

She studied him in bewilderment, Zhang mimicking her expression. To go, or to not? She could never make decisions. Well, there was only one way to go about this; her even or odd method.
