"Tauros, sing with me." You bumped the bartender with your hip. The two of you double teamed the bar. The smaller, less complicated orders going to you while he handled the flashier more intricate drinks. You bounced on the balls of your feet under the black lights over you.
There weren't that many people sitting around you and at the moment none of them were waiting. So you asked for a duet. "What?" He eyed you as you scrolled through the catalog on the bar tablet. "Come on! No one's on stage." You turned the tablet to him, pointing to a song. "Do you know this one?"
"Yeah, that doesn't mean I'm-"
"Great let's do it." You selected it and snatched two microphones off their chargers from behind you. "Cherry's rubbing off on you." Tauros shook his head and took a mic from you. "Ya think so?" The question didn't need an answer as you bopped around the bar, catching Cherry's attention from across the building. She danced and mouthed the lyrics along with you through the entirety of the song.
"Can I get another?" You heard as you set your mic back on its charger. "Hm?" Oh. You'd already served this customer in particular four mixed drinks; she'd only been there for an hour. "...Sure." You grabbed a large cup and filled it with water, setting it in front of her. "After you finish this."
The poor girl was obviously drinking something away, her frown deepened the longer she sat at the bar. She eyed the cup for a long while then finally took a sip. That sip turned into her chugging the whole thing. You gave a sigh of relief. "Thanks." She bit her lip and tucked her raven hair behind her ear. "No problem." You filled the cup again and served the next person.
"I...I think I'm good now." She spoke up, you peeked over your shoulder while you salted a rim. "What's your name?" You asked her, still making a margarita. "B-Bianca." She answered. "Bianca, you're red as a tomato. You can't handle your liquor." You shook and poured up the beverage, setting it on Antarcticite's serving tray. "Please, j-just one mooore." Tears were pooling in the corners of her eyes. "Um...?" You furrowed your eyebrows. "This," Tauros set a hand on your shoulder and leaned in close to your ear. "Is the other half of bartending. You get to be a therapist."
"No, please." You sighed. "You got this." He gave you a pat and a push in Bianca's direction. "Um, so what's wrong?" You asked, unsure of how to start whatever session you just got looped into. "I want another drink." She stressed her syllables. "I'll give you one if you tell me what your deal is." You crossed your arms, resting them on the bar surface. "It's it's...it's complicated." She swayed. "Humor me." You filled her cup with more water.
Bianca's eyes were on you for a moment, then her drink. Her hands just barely brushing its sides. "You remind me of my boyfriend. He he always makes me hydr-hydrate." She stared at her reflection. "My ex-boyfriend. I know he's gonna-" she choked up. "Damn, girl." You handed her a napkin. She dabbed under her eyes, trying not to ruin her eyeliner. "What happened?" You pressed, Bianca sniffed. "P-Promise you won't tell 'em!"
"I don't know who "him" is, but okay."
"Okay. Okay, we." She took a sip and shook her head to get her thoughts together. "We've been on and off for years, okay?" She gave you a blank expression, waiting for you to make some semblance that you were following along so early in her story. "Okay." You motioned for her to continue. "And I um...I travel! Yeah! Yeah, yeah I travel for work. I'm a ballerina." She struck a pitiful pose in the bar stool.
"Alright, Bianca the Ballerina."
"I'm. I just got back tod-yesterday? Yesterday. And I haven't told him I'm back yet."
"You think he's going to break up with you because you haven't told him you're home?" You scrunched your nose in confusion.
"I'm not home! This isn't my home...I was home. I was." She took another swig. "I was home and I was hhhappy." Bianca nodded hard. "I'm lonely here. Lonely, lonely, so lonely. He works a lot. He works so much. That's that's that's why we can't couldn't ever make it work."
"Oh." You nodded.
"Yeah, yeah I travel 'lmost all year." She pretended her hand was a plane, angling it across the opposite shoulder. "And sssometimes he travels too." She did the same with the other, forming an X over her chest. "But we we we're never together and." Bianca let her arms rest. "When I was home. There's was this time..." her gaze broke from yours. "Bianca, no..." you sighed. "I! I!" She choked out. "At first it was someone. Someone here and and there." She wiped her tears. "But I I I met this beautiful person in the troupe I wa- I was working with and and she makes me so happy!"
"Damn." I don't think bartending is for me.
"I didn't even have shows this past month. I just stayed to be with...to be..."
"Then why don't you break it off with your boyfriend here? Move back."
"Because I love them both."
"Are you fu-"
Her hands shot up in defense. "No! No! Listen listen listen to me. She knows! She knows I'm like this. She is too like me...too. She can love more than one person too."
"I get that but does he know? Did you tell him this?" Your eyes narrowed. "Please don't be mad at me." She quivered. "I..." You took a deep breath. "I'm not mad, this is just a lot."
"O-Okay. But I didn't tell him, no I didn't." She shook her head. "I'm new toooo this. This is the first time...this time?... we're on this time and I didn't tell him. I I have feelings for him still! And I want us to ssstay okay."
"Bianca, if you didn't speak up about yourself from the beginning of 'this time', can you expect this to end well? Honestly?"
"I don't...I don't know."
"You should tell him you're hom-....you're back. Tell him the truth. The worst that can happen is he'll say no. Just rip the bandaid off and stop letting this shit fester." You sighed, throwing your gaze up to the ceiling as you pushed off the bar. I don't get paid enough for this.
"I d-don't think I can." Bianca sniffed. "Don't think you can or don't want to?" You gave her a tired look. "I...don't want to. I-"
"Then it'll bite you in the ass." You cut her off.
"Tauros, I need something strong." You turned to him slightly. "Like strong strong." He chuckled and grabbed a bottle off the top shelf, pouring a short glass and sliding it down the bar. Bianca reached out for it, your hand swiftly taking it up. "No, this is for me." You put the rim to your lip. "I'll make you something, I...I just need a minute."
