"Thanks for the ride"

Jem tucked Brett's extra helmet back into the storage box at the back of his bike. She wasn't stupid enough to risk rolling up to the sheriff station of all places without a helmet on. Her dad would probably freak enough when his deputies reported his teenage daughter arriving on the back of some dudes motorbike.

Brett pulled his helmet off for a moment, the engine still humming. "You sure everything's okay?" he asked her before she ducked into the office. She couldn't help smile, her heart soaring.

"Everything's perfect" she promised him, then held up the two suit jackets they'd had to swing by her house to collect on the way. "Just a fashion emergency, I promise". She leaned in to kiss him, just for extra reassurance, then pulled his helmet back over his head for him before she swooned too much at his cute face.

No doubt the deputies would be fighting over who got to tell her dad what they'd just seen as Brett kicked his bike off again. But she didn't care. She couldn't wipe the stupid smile off her face as she skipped through the office.

Upon a day and night's deliberation, she'd managed to convince herself that her dad finally taking off his wedding ring was a good thing. She'd just been surprised when Stiles noticed is all. She wanted him to get back on the whole dating scene,  nothing would make her happier than seeing him happier.

Which is why when Stiles text her, asking for a jacket that didn't have a sheriff's department emblem on it that Dad could wear out that night, she didn't hold any reservations about.

"Your delivery has arrived" she swung her dad's office door open, just as her dad fixed up his tie. He sighed, smiling with a twinge of gratitude as she held out the lighter brown jacket for him, deciding it matched the shirt better. Though she questioned the shirt itself but there was no point in criticising something that was too late to change now.

Jem smiled as he shrugged the jacket on and held up a mirror. She hadn't seen him make such an effort in forever and her heart was swelling at his sudden desire to look all handsome and charming. And she could admit he'd done exactly that. Scott and Stiles were both there too, no doubt the culprits who'd badly advised him on that shirt choice.

He still kept messing around with his hair. "I should've gotten a hair cut" he sighed, but Stiles just brushed it off.

"Guy your age should be happy you still have hair"

Jem scoffed, then hoped her dad didn't notice. "I think you look great" Scott offered with a clueless smile on his face that made Jem and her dad know he was being genuine.

"Well thank you son I should have had"

Stiles pursed his lips, giving Scott a sideways glare as his friend just smiled sheepishly. But less than a split second after accepting his compliment her dad's hands sprung back up to the tie again, unravelling it from his neck.

"What am I doing, this is a terrible idea" he sighed, glancing between his two children stood in front of him.

"Dad no" Jem stopped her dad's hands from messing up his collar as well. She was completely set on him going out and having a good evening. There wasn't a single man in the entire state that deserved it more than he did. "It's one date okay. Beacon Hills won't implode while you're out with one woman"

"Or man" Stiles added from behind her. Jem turned and gave him a 'shut up?' look, to which he shrugged cluelessly in return.

"It's a woman Stiles" their dad sighed.

"Okay" Stiles smiled sweetly.

"A very beautiful woman I might add"

Jem grinned. There was nothing sweeter than her own dad getting nervous and giddy about a date. Meanwhile the cogs in Stiles head were spinning quicker than ever as he looked around the office. "Hey, what beautiful woman?" he asked finally. Admittedly Jem desperately wanted to know as well.
