"What?" Jennie gasped in shock.

Plus one? He wanted her to be his plus one? Did she hear wrong?

"I should probably elaborate more on that," Taeyong paused.

Yes, please.

"There's a charity gala event taking place next week called Nebula with all of the big enterprises attending including Kim co. I'm assuming you've heard of it," he resumed.

Nebula gala event? Of course, she knew it, everyone does. It's the biggest charity event of the year and donates to all the hospitals in remote areas, and not to mention extremely exclusive.

Only the top of the top are invited and receiving an invitation is a huge honor and secures your spot in the harsh competitive business world. Even if you're invited once, there's no guarantee you'll be invited again.

Jennie's parents were ecstatic when they got the invite for the 5th year in a row. Every company can only pick one representative to accompany the CEO to the prestigious event and this year she was chosen. She had almost forgotten about it due to all the chaos happening recently.

"Y-yes. I was invited this year to accompany my parents," Jennie stammered out quietly, full of nerves while looking down at my sweaty palms, too scared to look him in the eye.

"I know. This is why I want you to accompany me to the event," Taeyong stated as if it was nothing.

Jennie widened her eyes and looked up at him.

"Even if we enter together you won't be allowed in. Only invitees are allowed to enter the venue," she raised her voice slightly.

He raised an eyebrow and looked straight at me. Jennie realised she talked back to him and looked down at her hands again.

"Of course I know that. That's why I asked you to come with me. Ever heard of Neo City?"

She looked up at him slightly and nod.

"Isn't Neo City that huge futuristic technology corporation? They're everywhere," Jennie spoke timidly.

"Correct. You're looking at the CEO of it," he hummed.

She could hardly believe it. Neo City was established around 10 years ago around a similar time Kim co. was created. Unlike Kim co. which was invited to the Nebula Gala event 2 years after it was founded, Neo city was invited the same year it was established and receives an invite every year without fail.

"NCT stands for Neo Culture Technology. We develop futuristic technology as you mentioned before. Though as you and everyone already know, NCT is a mafia gang. Neo City is merely a cover-up and stepping stone created by us, but no one needs to know and no one should know. The only reason I'm telling you is so you don't embarrass us by being clueless about everything. Besides, I know you won't tell, I'll make sure of that" Taeyong darkly said.

It didn't make any sense but at the same time, it did. No one knows the true identities of NCT or what it means but everyone knows about Neo City so it's perfect and with Neo city, they can get information about people and build connections through big events like the Nebula gala. Though something was itching at the back of Jennie's mind which confused her.

"W-what do you need me for then?" She asked nervously.

"I was about to get to that. As you already probably know, the Nebula 'charity' event isn't a charity."

Jennie nodded her head in understanding.

She remembered her parents telling her this to prepare for the time she would attend with them. They told her that they do donate, but that's not the real intention of the Nebula gala. The true purpose of it and the reason why everyone wants to attend isn't only for the honor and prestige, it's the connections. The companies that attend the Nebula event aren't all 100 percent clean and quite a lot of them are involved in the underworld.
