They stayed cuddled up and watched the rest of the movie. By the time credits rolled, Alaric noticed that her breathing slowed down and she fell asleep.
He adjusted her position so that he could pick her up and take her to bed. He covered her with a blanket and she snuggled into it.
Alaric kneeled down on the floor so that he could look at her properly. She looked so peaceful. The normal worried look in her face wasn't there. He brushed a strand of hair from her face and sighed. She was truly beautiful.
He meant when he said he started falling for her. That one week when they didn't talk felt like forever. The small pause before she told him she likes him was enough to make it hard for him to breathe.
He knew her life was complicated. She didn't talk much about her life, but from what she told him, dating wasn't allowed at her home. But she was still willing to try and that mean a lot to him.
She scared him. She was unpredictable; she was scared of getting hurt that she might one day push him away. He was scared one day she was going to up and leave. That thought made him want to cry. He never cried since his father died. And it's scaring him that just the thought of losing her is making him want to cry.
He got from the position and kissed her forehead slightly before leaving. He didn't want to be the person who stares at others while they sleep.
He put the melted ice cream back in the fridge, hoping it was still edible; and turned all the lights off before locking the door behind him and leaving.
Amulya woke up next morning feeling fresh. She was surprised to see that she was on her bed. She doesn't remember falling asleep or at least completing the movie.
She saw a text from Alaric and smiled.
You were asleep, so I put you to bed.
Have a good day at work today.
She smiled at the text. It was sent last night, probably after she fell asleep.
She quickly typed in a reply before starting her day. The day moved by faster. Luckily there were no deaths that day, which gave Amulya some sort of relief. Soon it was midnight, and she was already waiting to go home.
Alaric sat down in front of his laptop, working on his book. Hillary has loved how the story was coming. He wanted to finish it as soon as possible. Three months to write a book wasn't a long time.
He was proud that he was almost done with it. He wasn't sure where to take the story; how to end it.
He sat in front of the laptop for hours, still nothing. He was distracted by the thoughts of a certain girl. What would Amy be doing now? He was sure she wasn't home. She told him that morning that she'd text him after she got home.
He took out his phone to text her. He was allowed to text his girlfriend. Wasn't he?
He liked the sound of that. He could see himself falling for her; her laugh, her smile, her voice. He started loving everything regarding her.
He saw that his phone was ringing. He smiled when he saw it was Amy.
"Hey sweetheart" he greeted. Amulya's smile broadened. She loved the nickname.
"Hey Rick. What's up?"
"I was just checking up on you."
"Why aren't you sleeping? It's past midnight"
"I was just writing. I'll go to bed now"
"You better not spend the rest of the night writing" She warned him but suddenly added when she heard her name being called. "I got to go now. I'll text you when I get back home. Bye"
She cut the call and left to check on the patient.
He hoped nothing was bad. She seemed tired and tense.
The next afternoon Alaric smiled as his phone lightened from a text from his girlfriend. She was home.
He quickly got up and walked over to her apartment and knocked on the door. Amulya was still in work clothes when she opened the door.
"Alaric, Hey" She greeted him and opened the door wider.
"I made lunch for us" he told her and she moved back when he went to hug her.
"I need to shower Alaric. Give me a few minutes" He nodded and decided to set up the table at Amulya's apartment as she showered and freshened up.
"I tried to make something I thought you'd like" he said hesitantly when she came out of her room. He had made some rice, mixed vegetable curry and chicken kebabs.
"Thank you Alaric" she said and tasted the food. "It tastes just like how my mum makes it" She told him making his smile widen.
She loved the food. She could get used to eating the food he cooked every day.
"I could do this every day" She said when they finished eating. Alaric chuckled.
"That can be handled" he smiled.
Amulya yawned showing him how tired she was.
"You better sleep. Come on" he took her hand and led her to the bedroom. She lay on the bed and smiled at him.
"Would you stay?" She asked him scooting over so that he has space to slip into the bed.
He smiled at her before sliding into the bed with her. He wrapped his hands around Amulya and she put her head on his chest.
"Sleep tight, Amy" He whispered in her ear, but she was already asleep.
