Chapter 29

Amulya stared at the blank computer screen, her eyes wide. She couldn't believe what she just heard. Her parents easily told her they would rather her be dead than marry the person she loved.

She couldn't breathe or stop the tears that were falling. She sat there staring at the laptop screen until she felt gentle hands on her shoulder. This caused her to snap out of her thoughts. She turned her head and looked at Rick who was sitting next to her.

He had been there from the beginning. He heard everything.

"I'm sorry, Amy" he said. She still wasn't feeling anything. She was still in shock.

"I love you, Alaric" she said and threw her arms around him, burying her head in his chest.

"I love you too, Amy"

"I'm sorry you had to hear that" Alaric was quiet; he didn't know what to say. Her parents just cut her off within seconds. Her father said he should have killed her even before she was born. That wasn't fair on her.

"Things were always like this at home. Madhan was allowed to do many things that was considered a mistake if I did them.

"He was in college when he met Jasmine. My parents immediately liked her. He always used to bring her home and they never questioned. And when it was time for me to go to college, they warned me not to talk to buys if I wished to continue my education.

"They willingly married of Madhan and Jasmine, they were ecstatic. Mum said that she was very proud of him for being able to marry such a great girl. But now when it came to me, they wished I was never born. What wrong did I do, Alaric? Why do they hate me so?

"Why do I even care? They let me down easily, without a thought, but why can I still not imagine getting married without their approval?"

As a response Alaric could only hold her tighter. She needed someone now; he would be there for her.

Amulya didn't know when she fell asleep. When she woke up, she was in bed curled up next to Alaric. She took out her phone to check the time. She was shocked to find out that she slept through the night. She was exhausted.

She tried to get up without waking Alaric, but it was too late. He already woke up.

"Morning, she mumbled snuggling into his warm chest.

"Good morning" he said before asking her what her schedule was for the day.

"I have to head to work in a few minutes; I have to make time to meet Rahul.

And I have the ER duty in the evening, before I leave."

"Are you still meeting up with Rahul?"

"Yeah, I have to tell him the truth. Knowing my parents, they probably told them I died"

And she was right. Rahul was shocked to see that Amulya was still very much alive. He didn't believe in the beginning, but after telling him about Alaric he understood.

That evening when she reached home, she wasn't as tired as she used to be. She had enough energy to watch a movie. So she invited Alaric.

Half way through the movie, she got a call from her brother.

"Amulya, Skype me" that's all he said before hanging up.

She opened her laptop and quickly called her brother.

"Hey baby sis" he greeted her. She could see him sitting in the office chair at home.

"Hi Madhan" she whispered, not knowing if her brother knew or not. They made a small talk where Madhan asked her about her work and she in return ask him about jasmine and his daughter.

"I got a call from home" He said, letting her know he indeed knew about Alaric. "I was surprised when mom told me about that guy you are dating. What's his name again?"

Madhan seemed pretty cool about Amulya's decision. He didn't seem bothered at all.

"Alaric" she smiled thinking of him; even though he was right next to her.

"Does he make you happy, Amu?"

"Very happy; I love myself when I am with him"

"He is there isn't he?" Madhan asked making Amulya's cheeks burn. If she could blush, they'd be dark maroon by then.

"Yes" She said before turning the screen so that Alaric was visible to Madhan.

"Rick, this is my brother Madhan. And Madhan, this is Alaric"

"Nice to meet you, man" Madhan told him, smiling brightly.

"Likewise" Alaric said to Madhan. It was quiet for a second like calm before a storm, Alaric and Madhan hit it off quiet well.

"I'm going to give you the basic big brother talk, if you break her heart, I'll take the first plane there and break all your bones"

"Noted, sir" Alaric saluted a bit.

"So now, sister, give me some time, I'll convince our parents" Madhan said mysteriously.

"How?"

"Simple; I'll just work some Madhan magic on them. Talk to you later. Nice meeting you Rick" with that he hung up.
