It wasn't fair.
It should be me over there, Chase thought. It should be me in his arms, not her.
He was currently stood at the side of the hall, watching Marshall happily dance with Ella. Who'd have thought the clumsy clown of the group would attract the love and affection of the sweet and caring twin.
Not Chase, that's for sure.
The two were smiling, still in their suit and gown from the ceremony earlier. The speeches had been made and the sun was beginning to set. The brunette gave a convincing fake smile when necessary, he couldn't take away his best friend's happiness.
No matter how much it hurt him.
"Hey," Skye smiled, spotting her friend all alone. "How are you holding up?"
She knew. Chase had always confided in the blonde girl. They were practically siblings.
"Not great." He admitted. "I'm glad he's happy, it's just-"
"You wanted to make him happy?"
Skye had hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what was wrong.
"It's not fair," Chase whispered, voice cracking slightly. "I loved him first."
"I know." Skye gave a sad smile and hugged the taller close to her. "It will take time but you'll find someone, and all this pain, all this waiting will be worth it, I promise you."
Anyone would have thought that the girl was hinting for herself. Not a chance - she had Rocky and they were deliriously happy.
Skye excused herself to go and see Everest who was at the other side of the hall with Sweetie, each holding a glass of wine.
Meanwhile, Rocky was sat at the bar, watching Zuma absentmindedly look in Skye and Chase's direction, sipping occasionally at his drink.
"You'd better not be eyeing up Skye, Zum." The shorter laughed.
"Very funny." The brunette replied, rolling his eyes but not tearing them away from the scene.
"So are you gonna go and talk to him?"
"Why would I?" Zuma bluffed.
"Zum," Rocky sighed. "Don't play dumb with me. I know that look."
"What look?" He snapped.
"Zuma. Don't act like you never looked at me like that." Rocky whispered. It was still loud enough for the other to hear. He froze, glass just touching his lips.
"You knew?" He asked finally.
"Of course I knew. I'm not stupid."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"Because I was waiting for you to admit it to me. You never did and eventually it got harder to tell if you actually did care about me. I went to Skye one night and things fell into place for us." He explained.
Zuma sighed and closed his eyes in defeat. Still, he didn't move. He didn't speak.
"Go to him." Rocky pushed.
"What if-? What if I mess this up?"
"Then you'll know. There's nothing worse than not knowing." Zuma was thinking about his friend's words when Rocky noticed Chase leaving the hall, rather quickly, when Marshall and Ella began their first dance.
"Zuma," the brunette looked to his friend again. "You've lost any chance of love with me because you waited too long. No matter how close we are as friends we both know we can never be anything more. Don't lose this chance. If not for yourself do this for me. Please."
