Jason Grace x Reader - A Birthday to Remember (Soulmate AU)

Okay so I totally forgot about Soulmate au's until I saw something about it on my Insta. I thought, "Wow!! I could write something like that!!" and so I did. This is my first ever attempt at a soulmate au! Sorry if it's different from what you normally see in these types of AUs, but I figured I'd do my own take on it.

Today was the fateful day. You knew a lot about the red string of fate, as it was something that you often read up on or asked friends about. It would finally become visible to you on your sixteenth birthday. This red string would lead you to your soulmate, the person you would spend the rest of your life with. It made you fuzzy on the inside just thinking about it. What could go wrong? Percy and Annabeth turned out amazingly. Will and Nico were incredibly happy together. Hazel and Frank? They were the perfect pair. 

Out of all of your friends, you were kind of the odd one out. As Leo would put it, you would be the "ninth wheel." Even though he and Jason weren't soulmates, they were close friends that spent a lot of time together. Not to mention, you were younger than all of them. You hadn't gone on any amazing quests with them. You just fought in the war and tended to their wounds. 

You plopped down onto your bed, staring at your pinky finger. When you woke up there was nothing there, but now there was a neatly tied red string. It sat lazily along the floor, trailing out the door. in a straight line. You silently wondered how long it would take before you found your soulmate. Was he at camp? Or could he be a regular mortal? Or what if he was all the way at Camp Jupiter? 

A soft knock at your door interrupted your thoughts. You looked up to see your brother Leo grinning. "Hey sis! Come with me." You decided not to question him. Your brother was notorious for being spontaneous. He drug you along without saying another word. You felt a gentle tug on your pinky, and you noticed that the red string was becoming slightly more taught. Your heart was pacing. 

"Leo," You said softly, "where are we going?" 

He turned around to you and gave you his impish grin. "It's a surprise Y/n!" 

You were a bit skeptical, but you continued to let him lead you anyway. Before long, you two were at the beach. Percy and Annabeth were waiting for you. You felt like you were in some sort of relay race. Without any sort of explanation, Annabeth began to style your hair while Percy waited patiently with a flower crown in hand. Leo jogged away. 

"Annabeth? Percy? What's going on-?" 

Annabeth finished with your hair and Percy placed the crown atop your head. "It's a secret." Annabeth said, giving you a smile. "Now, we need to take you to Hazel and Frank." 

Once again, you were pushed across camp. You were now led to the Hades cabin. Why Hazel and Frank were there, you had no idea. Hazel pulled you into a hug, which you returned. 

"Hey Y/n!" They said in unison.

"Hey Hazel, hey Frank." 

Without saying anything, Hazel held up a lovely necklace with a f/c gem in the center. She stepped behind you, clipping it shut. Frank held up your arm and gently slid a matching bracelet around your wrist. 

"Guys-" 

"C'mon Y/n!" Frank said. "Let's go see Will and Nico." 

You groaned. Together, Hazel and Frank led you back to your cabin, where Will and Nico were waiting. This was a really, really strange relay race. Will held up a lovely f/c dress, and in Nico's hands was a box filled with makeup supplies. 

"Hey Y/n!" Will said happily. "Get dressed!"

You sighed. Today was really quite the opposite of what you were expecting. You noticed that the string had become limp again. You were excited to meet your soulmate, but you figured that your friends came first. You followed their wishes, putting on the dress. When you finished, you saw Nico sitting on your bed, organizing the makeup. He pat the space in front of him.

"Sit." He said. Nico was surprisingly good at makeup. He finished up quickly, smiling at his work. 

"Guys, what's this all about?" You asked a bit more sternly than you had before. Will took a seat on the other side of you. Before you could get any kind of response, Leo, Hazel, Frank, Annabeth, and Percy walked in. In the center, Leo was holding a birthday cake. 

"Happy birthday!" Everyone shouted. You felt tears of happiness well in your eyes. 

"Guys... you did this all for my birthday? That's so nice..." You did your best not to cry and ruin the job Nico did with your makeup. 

"Well, it's not just for that." A new voice came from behind the crowd. You blinked the tears away, trying to find the source of the voice. Jason pushed his way through the crowd. He was wearing a black tux, his hair was neater than usual, and his glasses sat neatly on the bridge of his nose. With a smile, he held up his pinky, where you saw the red string tied. Instinctively, you held up your pinky as well. 

"J-Jason?" 

"I wanted today to be really special for you." He said with a soft smile. "I've known about you being my soulmate for awhile... but I didn't want to spoil it for you. So I got all of our friends to help." 

You jumped up and pulled him into a hug. "Jason! That's so amazing. You're amazing." 

He laughed, returning the hug. "I'm glad you enjoy it. C'mon now, let's eat some cake."

OKAY OKAY I know this isn't my best work, I'm not suuuuper proud of it, but I think it's aight. I know the beginning's all over the place and the story's kinda cringe soo... Hopefully you guys enjoyed! Don't be afraid to send me requests either, It can be hard coming up with ideas ^^;
