The night when Peter had stumbled in stabbed and bleeding felt like a lifetime ago to the young couple. When in reality it had only been three months. From that night onwards they had made a pack. Peter would text her every morning when he finished patrol to tell her he was okay. Were the situation to change he would come to her first so she could make sure any injures were going to heal properly. The odd occasions where this had been the instance he had slept in her room and spent the subsequent day as she doted on him once again in fear she was going to lose him.
Some people might have found this overbearing or annoying. But not Peter. He found it endearing that she was concerned for his health and found relief in awaking hours later to find her good morning text saying she was happy he was okay and would see him at school. He had yet to fail in messaging her to say he was safe as he spent a lot of his time on patrol trying to come up with something witty to say to her in the hopes it would make her laugh.
Ainsley wouldn't dare tell anyone that Peter had very quickly become the most important person in her life. He was by far the better one of the pair and he utterly and truly made her not just happy but a better person. She very rarely fought anyone in the hallways of the school anymore. She wouldn't try to start anything even if someone pushed past her. Yes she still may have cursed them out and swore if they ever did it again that it would be the end of them. But she was not as volatile and menacing as she once was. And it was all due to Peter being in her life. She never did not worry for his safety and found there were nights she could not sleep and often found herself falling asleep cuddled into him at the table they shared with MJ and Ned Leeds at lunch.
However, tonight was not one of those nights. Peter had given her one of his sweatshirts as she had forgotten her own jacket and was cold. She had then spent the rest of the evening in it only taking it off to go to sleep. She thought it would be no different to any other night. Why would she? She trusted Peter and his skills and she trusted the newer version of the suit, which was stronger so it shouldn't be as easy to get through with a knife.
Therefore, when she awoke that morning and rolled over to check her phone she was a little bit confused. For the first time there was no message from Peter. None to say he was home safe and no bad pun he had thought of whilst swinging his way through the suburbs. She tried to think of the best, maybe he was just so tired that he fell asleep and forgot. Therefore she sent her normal good morning text and tried to get on with her day as if nothing was wrong or as though her routine hadn't just been blown to smithereens.
Entering the kitchen she was more on edge than normal and found herself clicking her energy concentrator on and off again. She found herself constantly checking her phone opening up the messaging app and then refreshing it to see if he had even read the message. She continued this behaviour all the way into first lesson. This was physics and the pair were supposed to be in it together. Yet as the bell rung and the class bled on there was no sight of her spider. And she continued to text him yet with no response her small amount of worry very quickly amounted into a very large sum.
It didn't help when she was questioned at lunch by Ned if she had heard from Peter as he hadn't and it was unlike the teenaged superhero to not answer any of their messages or not tell anyone he was sick. Right now she would have accepted a phone call from May Parker to say that Peter had caught some sort of bug and would be at home. Yet by the end of lunch she had yet to hear anything and she was not okay.
Ainsley had stormed her way down the hallway shouting at anyone who had yet to move and pushing them rather forcefully away if they refused to move fast enough for her. Reaching her locker she threw it open with enough force that the hinges squeaked and picked up her backpack with such might that when she swung it around she hit another teenager in the back. Not bothering to stop and apologise she slammed it shut and stormed her way out of the building and portaled her way to where her father was.
Tony Stark looked up in shock to see a very anxious looking Ainsley stood right in front of his desk at work. It wasn't very often he was actually at Stark industries as it was generally ran by his long term friend Pepper and he did more on the administrative side. He thought for less than a second about why his daughter would even be appearing in his office at this time of day. But taking another look at her he knew she would tell him very quickly what the problem was.
"I haven't heard from Peter all day and neither has anyone else. Not even May has contacted me to say he was ill." Ainsley all but rushed out. Usually for someone to not reply to messages for less than 24 hours was not a thing to be worried about. However, in the case of modern day teenagers they were attached to these devices and it was unlike them to reply to anything. Also in the case of Peter and Ainsley he knew how their deal had worked out for keeping each other in the loop. Therefore with a look to his daughter he brought up a new search and using Fridays' assistance began to track where said teenaged boys phone was. The result pinged back some sort of warehouse district by the docks and both Starks turned to look at each other with a look of confusion on their faces. Why was he there of all places? It wasn't even in his usual patrol path.
Though their questions were soon answered as a message was sent to Ainsley's phone.
'Seems as though you have finally clued onto the smart thing to do. Your little spider boy is quite happily tied up and out of it. Hope you can find him soon.'
Attached to the message was a picture of Peter his mask off and bruises littering his face. The teenaged boy was tied to the chair he sat on by chains and he was very much unconscious. The phone location suddenly started to ping around the warehouse area before disappearing outside of the city and then disappearing in total.
"Holy mother of shit" Ainsley swore her heart rate now rapidly increasing in speed as she became aware that she had a right to have been so worried. But she stood there realising that her Soulmate had actually been taken. Screw it he had been kidnapped. Her Peter.
"It's okay sweetheart we'll work something out and he'll be back home with you in no period of time. We're Starks we can do this." Tony attempted to be confident for the both of them. One of them had to be and considering this was his daughters soulmate it fell to him. Considering he had never been in this situation himself he wasn't sure exactly what to say. Sure he had been dealt a shitty life with his soulmate but at least his wasn't kidnapped.
"We will get him back" Were Ainsley's last words before she had portaled herself home.
Tony sat there and placed his head in his hands. He didn't know how they'd even start about going after the teenager. Sure he could go in as Ironman but he felt like him alone would not be enough for a successful rescue mission with maximum positive outcomes. He wasn't sure if Ainsley would get involved but he didn't expect her to. She had never had to actually suit up and fight evil before and he couldn't expect that of her now. He could call Rhodey but he wasn't sure that he would make their outcome look more positive.
The only thing he could think of that provided him with the best possible outcome was at the other end of the one specific number in his phone. He stared at the contact for what felt like a millennia. The picture was of them both happy as could be smiling at the camera and looking as though nothing could tear them apart. The contact number hadn't changed in almost three years it still stuck at that stupid nickname he had used back then. He wasn't sure this number was still the right one. He really didn't want to call the number either. But this was for Ainsley and he'd do anything for her. So he clicked the call button.
It rang once, twice and a third time. By the third ring he had potentially given up. However upon said ring it was picked up.
"Hello" Came the voice he missed most of all. He hadn't thought this far in advance. What was he supposed to say now?
"Steve? It's Tony. I need your help."
