This is what I imagined that the arena would look like.
The next morning I was awakened by the sound of someone screaming bloody murder below me. I pulled myself out of the warmth of the sleeping bag and tried to drag myself over to the window before I was reminded of my leg. It was then that I discovered that right across the top of the thigh is a bad place to get cut. Whenever I would walk the stitches that I had put in last night tried to pull the wound closed when it wanted to pull apart and open causing the skin where the stitches were to start to tear. It was a very uncomfortable feeling but I managed to get over to the window to look down at the career camp. Rock was holding his head in his hands while Electra was screaming at him. He was probably nursing a pretty good headache after the knock I gave him last night. Electra threw her hands up and stomped away. I snuggled back down against the wall and pulled the other backpack that I had gotten last night towards me. It held another bag of rolls, some bandages, and another small water bottle filled with rubbing alcohol. The vial I grabbed had a skull and crossbones on the bottle, so I assumed that it was some kind of poison. I pulled my leg out, wincing as the aching sensation shot up. I took the alcohol and poured a little over the top of the wound. I had to bite down on one of my knife handles to keep from screaming. I soaked the alcohol up with some of the bandages before considering wrapping it. I figured that it was as clean as I could get it so I took some of the fabric bandages and wrapped them around the leg tying a square knot at the end of each bandage. After about two hours of the excruciating pain, I had the leg wrapped. Hopefully now, the stitches wouldn't move around as much.
I figured if anyone came I would be able to defend the staircase so I opted to snuggle back up in my sleeping bag and try and get some more rest. The sky was grey and it looked like it was going to rain as I peeked back over the window at the Careers. They were all sitting around a fire and eating breakfast. I had opted to save my food and water until I really needed it as I had tried to eat as much as I could in the launch room before I threw up. That had really put a hooey in my plan. Suddenly there was the crack of thunder and the rain started pattering down. I saw Electra hold out her hand to catch some before she screamed. I realized why when I saw the first red droplets hit the ground. It was raining blood, hot, sticky blood. It started to come down in sheets and the Career's started to run. Except this time they were running towards the church. I jumped up and ran down the stairs as fast as my leg would carry me careful not to trip the wire. I slammed my shoulder into the door just as one of the Careers hit the door. The old wood creaked and my leg screamed in pain. My eyes started watering as the Career hit the door over and over again. I finally got the deadbolt done up and drug an old bench over and propped it up against the door I felt my mouth filling with blood as I realized that I had bitten a hole in the inside of my mouth in an attempt to keep silent. I heard the footsteps sprint away. I pulled the bench away from the door after I looked through the dusty window at the red rain pouring down.
There was a loud knocking at the door and Maggie's voice broke through the sound of the rain, "If anyone is in there, please let me in! Please!" I looked out the window again, it looked like she was alone. I unbolted the door and grabbed her by the collar of her bloodsoaked jumpsuit. "What are you doing?" I growled at her and dropped her on the floor before bolting the door again. She whimpered. "The District 3 boy, he killed Sage. He's crazy Sage, I think he was following me until the rain started." I hadn't heard a cannon but the rain on the roof and the thunder could have covered it up. If she was telling the truth that meant that other Sage was dead leaving 14 tributes alive. I glared out the window, and Maggie curled up on the floor and cried.
So our uneasy alliance began. I didn't trust a hair on her head but I felt that until my leg got a little better that it would be best to have some sort of ally, even one I didn't trust.
