A/N (In case anyone was wondering what Joss's Stick looked like.)
That evening I wait for the others to fall asleep before sneaking over to the fire escape. "Where ya goin?" I jump, spinning around with my stick in hand only to find that it's just Mush. I sighed, and put my stick back in my belt loop. "Don't scare me like dat. I coulda knocked youse out." He shrugged, clearly unfazed.
"So, where ya goin?" He asked again. I just gave him a look. "Not ya problem Mush. Ill be back before wake up, okay?" He grabbed my arm as I tried to leave and turned me back around. "Joss." I sighed. "Okay, I'm goin ta Brooklyn." He raised his eyebrows. "Youse sure dats a good idea?" He asked me. I just raised my eyebrow, causing him to shrug. "good point. Just don't kill anyone." I nodded, and climbed out the window.
As I walked down the bridge I wondered if Spot would still be there. It was a while after sundown after all. I also wondered why the bridge had to be so dang long.
As I drew closer to the end of the bridge I thought I saw someone a few times, but decided to just ignore it. I was too far away to be sure, and the closer I got, the less I thought I saw them. When I reached the end where the bridge became Brooklyn I couldn't see anyone. I didn't want to feel like I'd just wasted the walk over, so I walked over to the bridge railing and sat down to watch the stars. Brooklyn had less lights out at night, so I could see the stars a lot easier.
I don't know how long I sat there, but right as I decided to leave someone covered my eyes. Instinctively I grabbed their arm and whirled around, pushing them to the ground, my stick against their chest. That's when I realized that the person was none other than the reason I'd been out there, Spot Conlon.
"Evenin'." He said, surprisingly unfazed by being pinned to the ground. I got off him and offered my hand to help him up. He took it, but when I pulled him up I found his face only a few inches from mine. I let go of his hand and stepped back.
"So what was so important that youse was late?" Spot asked me. I gave him a look. "It's past midnight and you just got here while I got here about an hour after sundown." He smirked at me. "Who said Ise only just got here?" I rolled my eyes and sat back down on the bridge railing.
"So what'd ya want?" I asked him. He sat down next to me. "Ya ain't a very friendly goil, are ya." I shrugged. "Ise ain't got a reason ta be nice to ya."
I could feel Spot staring at me, making me feel grateful for the darkness as my face heated up. I looked away, wishing he would say something. After a moment I stood up. "Well, if youse ain't gonna tell me what ya want then Ise just gonna head out."
I was about to walk away when I felt his arms wrap around my waist. I froze, not knowing how to react to the situation. I was being held from behind by both a really cute guy and also a powerful leader who was known for being a bit of a womanizer.
I pulled my stick out again. "If youse don't let go, Ise ain't gonna hesitate ta knock youse out." He let go, but pulled my cap off as he did, causing my brown hair to come tumbling down. I whirled around, intending to hit him, but I just ended up with hair in my mouth. I spit it out and glared at Spot, who was now standing on the bridge railing, smirking at me.
"Give that back." I said with a glare. He just shook his head. "Youse gotta ask a bit nicer than that." I sighed. "Look, I need my hat to sell papers, so can I please have it back?" He looked at me in surprise, apparently not expecting me to comply, but I was worn out from the day.
Spot jumped down from the rail and handed me my cap. "Youse should try dressin' like a goil someday. Youse'd look beautiful." I felt my face heat up again as I tucked my hair back under my cap. "Is there an actual reason youse wanted to see me tonight?" I asked him. "Ise wanted to give ya anudda chance to convince me."
I smirked. That I could do. "Well, considernin' We'se fought da scabs today, Ise think thats proof enough of us bein' serious bout dis. One of us even got dragged by da Delancy bruddahs." Spot seemed to consider it for a moment. "What'd Ise get if Ise agreed tah join?" He asked. I stared at him for a second. Was this guy serious? Then I smirked, deciding to play around with this before I had to head back.
"Well... What'd ya want?" I asked as I stepped closer to him, tugging on his red suspenders. I could've sworn I'd seen a blush on his face, but I couldn't be sure.
"Well, that depends on what bein' offered." He replied, stepping even closer to me. I smirked. I had him right where I wanted.
"How about..." I leaned in to whisper in his ear..."Gettin the papes price back tah normal." I stepped away and began walking back to Manhattan, my stick over my shoulder. "Think about it Conlon. Hope tah see ya tomorrow."
