Dinner with the Todoroki's, which seemed to be the most uncomfortable experience I've ever went through, consisted of Endeavour, Fuyumi and Todoroki.

Sitting opposite them was me, my mum, hero and my step-father. The latter was busy ogling Endeavor of course. The food was extravagant, a whole 3 course meal with appetisers, the main course and Japanese style deserts.

I bit into the mochi ball, sweetness exploded in my mouth as I conversed with Fuyumi.

"What made you want to be a primary school teacher Fuyumi?" I asked out of simple curiosity. It was interesting to see someone from such a prestigious family pick a normal job.

Her face twisted around uncomfortably, as if conflicted to answer but she quickly made her resolve and gave me a confident smile.

"I want to help children, watch them grow and mature into healthy individuals." Her answer was more personal than I expected.

"That's admirable" I smiled warmly at her. But I couldn't help but wonder what exactly happened to her to make that her goal.

"I agree." My mother also nodded along, "you know, I also used to work as a primary school teacher. It's always fun but, of course, kids can be a handful at times" Fuyumi chuckled.

"Tell me about it."

"Fuyumi." Endeavour suddenly called her name coldly, silencing the once talkative girl. Her fingers trembled slightly at his glare. "I called you here today to discuss something I've been thinking about for a while. Ella has proven that she is truthfully serious about becoming a hero and now that that's confirmed I would like to suggest a potential alliance between our families."

"Alliance?!" My step-father all but squealed in excitement.

I, on the other hand, was skeptic. My mother also seemed to share my thoughts as she glanced at me.

"Marriage." Endeavour finally spoke silken I gotta the room, "between Ella and Shouto"

Todoroki slammed down his chopsticks at the revelation while glaring murderously at his father.

"I won't agree to this!" He shouted while his father glared at him.

"Shouto." He warned.

"No! You can't control my life like this! I won't sit down like an obedient child and allow this to happen!" I had never seen him so mad. It was safe to say I was speechless. But I could understand his anger, no way was I going to be forced to marry Todoroki or anyone for that matter.

He stood up and stormed out of the room and Fuyumi followed him looking just as distressed.

"I'm sorry for the unsightly scene you just saw" Emdeavor apologised. I couldn't guarantee Todoroki would make it out of this alive.

"No, there's no need to apologise" my mother quickly said.

"That's right." Step-father also intervened.

I couldn't help but frown. I'm pretty sure my step-father would be more than welcome to selling me off to Endeav-

"But I'm going to have to reject that proposal" my head snapped towards my step-father who spoke and for the first time ever, he stared at Endeavour with an unexpected expression. Anger.

"Why is that?" Irritation seeped off Endeavours words.

"I won't force my daughter to marry someone."

M-my daughter?...

An unfamiliar warmth, one I felt uncomfortable to embrace fostered within me. He thinks of me as his daughter. A smile cascaded up my lips.

"I also agree. Children should be able to identify who they want to spend the rest of their lives with. I can't force that on my kids" my mother also rebuked the idea.

Hero just nodded alongside.

Endeavour looked even more pissed than before.

"Fine. You guys might not agree but what about Ella?" He turned his fiery gaze towards me. The answer he wanted so obviously shown in his eyes... but I had to reject the idea.

"I'm currently seeing someone, so I'm afraid I'll have to say no" that someone however had the nerve to ignore me after ditching me in a awkward spot yesterday.

"That's settled then" is it really Endeavor? Because I swear you look like your about to murder someone...

That was the end of the dinner and so we started to leave but before we left Fuyumi asked me to stay behind. She lead me upstairs.

Strangely enough, I trusted her. She seemed to care deeply for Todoroki unlike his father who used him like he was some kind of tool.

I gritted my teeth as I recalled the bearded man. I recalled hero's father standing up for me which made me laugh at the irony. A non-blood related father who acted more like a father than an actual blood related father. It seemed whether you shared blood with someone didn't even matter.

She Bought me to a room with a shrine. The picture of a little red headed boy stood upright across the wall on our side. I glanced at it curiously while Fuyumi payed her respect to the boy.

"Who is he?" I asked after she was done.

She looked at me through reddened eyes and a broken expression.

"My brother" tears she hadn't shed gathered around her eyes as she carried on speaking, "my father wanted to have the most powerful heir so he forced my mother into a marriage with him. When my brother was born he had fire power just like my dads but much more powerful however, like my mother his body was quite frail. My father deemed him useless and soon after... he died in an accident" tears fell around her eyes, "unlike him, Shouto had exactly what my father wanted so he was subject to my fathers training and abuse." She turned to look at with a fierce gaze. "He's been through a lot so if your just playing with my brother then you better stop now."

I stared at the woman infront of me. She wasn't the same care-free woman at dinner time, no, she was a strong woman who wanted to protect her younger brother.

"I also care about Todoroki" warm liquid spilt down my face, surprising me.

I was... crying?

"I want him to be happy so please trust me when I say he's someone I genuinely care for" words poured out of my throat. Fuyumis glare softened and she soon approached me.

"Then please, help him accept his past."

"Fuyumi." A familiar ring out behind us. It was colder and much more frightening than I remembered.

I felt my back at the fact that I might've intruded into someone Todoroki would've rather not told me.

"Shouto!" Fuyumi looked slightly taken aback at his random appearance.

"Let me tell her." She looked conflicted but nodded and left me with him.

My body was frozen. Even when I heard the door click shut I couldn't dare look at him. Would he get angry that I'm here?

"Ella, look at me."

"I"-

"Please."

I lifted my gaze from the shrine and turned around. Todoroki's stood there in a Japanese monsuke. It suited him a lot. Somehow it gave him an air of sophistication and maturity.

"I'm sorry for intruding" I apologised quickly hoping he wasn't angry.

"Don't bother", he smiled mysteriously at the shrine next to me. His face the description of melancholy, "can I tell you a story?"

And with that I realised just who Todoroki Shouto was.
