Frigg tugs at your arm as you start to walk from the back of the gathered crowd of warriors and towards Ivar.
"If you have any doubts about staying Sigrid, you must tell us...and you must tell us now!" she speaks to you. Her eyes showed her growing concern.
"She is right. Once Ubbe and Hvitserk leave...if things should turn sour. We only have a small force here..." Siv adds. Pulling you to the side of the crowd. As to not let any of Ivar's remaining men hear your conversation.
"I have no doubts about staying here with Ivar. Why? Is there something you both wish to tell me?" you question. Looking for a moment, to see if Ivar has noticed your absence. But his eyes remain fixed on his brothers preparing to set sail.
"No, but I want to make sure you're certain..." Frigg speaks before Siv finished for her...
"...we both want to stay and fight with Ivar. The Gods will it. But..."
"But?" you ask.
"We just don't want the love your hold for him to cloud your judgment..." Siv speaks to you honestly. They just wanted to protect you and the warriors you three were responsible for.
"We love and respect you Sigrid...and nothing will ever change that. We just don't want you to lose yourself in all this." Frigg adds.
"You both have no need to worry. I will always be the first to pull Ivar back in line when he should stray from what is best for me, you...and the rest of our force. I promise you" you assure both your maidens. Smiling to them both as you reach your arms up to their shoulders.
Hearing Ivar begin to shout a few paces in front of you all. You gesture for your maidens to follow you to the front of the gathered warriors. All watching Ubbe and Hvitserk's forces load their vessels.
"LOOK AT YOU! TRYING TO SNEAK AWAY TO AVOID YOUR SHAME! SURELY YOU MUST BE EMBARRASSED THAT NO ONE ELSE IS WITH YOU? WHY IS THAT? I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT, CAN YOU?" Ivar bellows down to his elder brothers triumphantly.
"Ivar...leave them be" you sigh as you sit next to him on a large rock.
"Why should I?" he questions with a huge smirk plastered on his face.
"The Gods have granted all that you have asked of them...you are the leader of The Great Army! Now leave them be! What is to be gained from tormenting them now..." you plead. Not wanting to witness him fight with his brothers any more than he already had since the Saxon attack.
"We..." he chirps, looking down at you with a smile.
"What?" you question.
"We my love...we are the leaders of the Great Army now!" he smiles warmly at you before pulling at your waist so you shuffle closer to him. Looking up to him with the gladdest of smiles, before pulling him into a passionate kiss.
"Now let me get back to tormenting them...hm?" he jokes. You slap his chest playfully in protest but he continues regardless.
"UBBE! NOBODY IS WITH YOU! EVERYONE IS WITH ME!" he shouts, gesturing to you with his waving hand. Knowing this would aggravate Ubbe and Hvitserk no end.
Your gaze shifts quickly to one of the boats. You notice a figure clambering up and over the wooden frame. You watch as Hvitserk casually jumps from the lead vessel and onto the large rocks scattered around the water's edge. Making his way up to where you are sat.
"Hvitserkkk..." Ivar laughs.
In a state of utter disbelief and joy, you jump to your feet and rush down to the edge of the water to meet the returning brother.
"What are you doing?" you question, a smile plastered across your face.
"I had a bad feeling" his face is stern. As if he has been forced into staying against his will.
"About leaving with Ubbe?" you question, eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"No...about leaving you here, with him" his eyes trail up to Ivar who...luckily....misses this completely.
He is still staring daggers into Ubbe as his boats begin to sail down the river and away from you all.
