It was bright and early when Mabel came into the room where Julia was asleep. "Rise and shine! We've got so much to do today Julia. Get up get up. Breakfast awaits you at the table."
"What time is it?" Julia said with her face in the pillow.
"We don't base our days on time sweetheart, it's morning when the sunlight enters your home." Then Mabel walked out of the bedroom humming. Julia sat up and looked at the clock in the room that read 6:37 and threw her head back down on the pillow.
It was only a couple minutes until Julia decided to join Mabel for breakfast. Mabel had made peanut butter toast with scrambled eggs. "This looks pretty good Mabel, thank you."
"Yes yes, but don't judge by the way it looks. Go on, take a bite."
Julia stared at Mabel for a little bit before she raised her eyebrows and ate some of the eggs. "I guess you could say that I judged correctly." Julia continued to eat her breakfast, as for Mabel was already finished. "You said we have so much to do today? What could we possibly be doing?"
"We have to buy you some clothes. You can't just wear mine." Julia identified whose pajamas she had on.
After breakfast, Mabel took Julia shopping around the city. Julia was surprised that a stranger would spend so much money on someone they didn't even know. "So how many kids do you have?" Asked Julia as they walked to the next store.
"Just my son. Although, I always wish I had a daughter." Maybe that's the reason that she's spent so much money on Julia.
"Are you married?"
"I am indeed. William is no longer here, but he's here." She put her hand over her heart. "You're a lot more talkative today. So you really don't know who you are huh?"
"No. I don't, and I'm not too sure how something like that could even happen. I'm sure you think I'm just lying about it all, because I certainly cannot prove it."
"Well maybe you just have dissociative amnesia."
"Excuse me?"
"There's a chance your lack of memory was caused by a traumatic event."
"Like what?"
"Beats me." Mabel laughed. "I'm just some crazy ole lady. Pay me no mind would ya?" And Julia did just that and put it to the side. "Pardon me, I need to use the ladies room, I'll be back in just awhile. Try not to wander too far." She winked at Julia and left for the bathroom.
While Mabel was off in the restroom, for what was beginning to seem like forever, Julia continued to look at clothes. Then a tall brunet man bumped into her from behind. "Oh my I am so sorry." He assured her as he helped her stabilize herself. Julia didn't respond, she just nodded. "Hello, I'm Billy." He reached his hand out for her to shake.
"Julia." She replied simply.
"Oh lovely. You don't hear of too many Julia's nowadays."
"I suppose not." She answered and then turned her back against him. Billy was just so awkward and remained behind her until she turned around. "You ran into me on purpose, didn't you?" She said to end the uncomfortable confrontation.
Billy didn't reply with words but instead a smirk and a nervous laugh. "Would you excuse me for just one second?" He said softly as he slowly walked away from her and to what seemed like a friend in the other end of the store. Julia watched him talk to his friend, but she was unable to decipher what he was actually saying.
When Billy got over to his friend, he was very confused. "Are you sure that's her?" He whispered.
"Yes, I'm sure. Not too many red heads look alike. I know for a fact that's her."
