^^ Miki is Perpetually Unimpressed ^^
"Well... that's a fucking pathetic way to die." I grumbled, staring down at a view of myself slipping on ice on a sidewalk, cracking my head against the icy cement underneath me.
A soft, matronly voice chuckled beside me, despite there being no one else in the small glass room. "There are worse ways, you know? At least you didn't sneeze yourself to death."
"Wait... that's possible?!?" I turned around incredulously, looking for the source.
"I'm sorry, dear, I don't have a Form for you to see; still, you seem to understand the situation without me having to explain too much, yes?" The voice was encompassing the entire room, but also right next to me, it seemed.
"I'm dead, you're god, and I'm finally leaving this loser-rock for a different planet with dragons and magic and swords." I nodded seriously.
"... ... ... You're 4/6 correct. You are dead, and leaving Earth for a different planet, but no, there is little to no Magic involved. Highly-Advanced Science, yes, but no Magic. There are Dragons and Swords, however. Also, I'm not a god, I'm a Higher-Being that encapsulates, cleans, and then ferries Souls across the cosmos to various Intelligent Planets."
"Sounds like the definition of a god of death to me. Also, All Magic is Highly-Advanced Science, so whatever you call it, I'm in! So how's this work, do I get to be a kid again, or is a Direct Transfer sorta thing, do I go exactly as I am?" I shrugged, tapping the crystal ball in the center and flinching when the room shook slightly.
"I suppose that from your point of view, I would be a Deity, and you're not wrong that science too advanced for the masses to understand is generally mistaken for Magic. Regardless, your Body is not only dead, it is useless, in this new world, because your body's immune system would go Haywire and Shut Down if I put it on a different Planet; killing you immediately upon reincarnating you would be rather pointless, I think. To accommodate that, you'll be placed into a new body, and to ensure your mind doesn't rebel against having a new body, you'll be choosing it yourself. Enjoy." The Crystal shivered again and turned into a small screen, covered in words in other languages and pictures of people that looked vaguely like me, but with different skin tones and hair colors.
"Well, that makes sense... are these all Races from the Plane I'm being sent to? Does each one have different Perks and stuff?" I poked one which looked like me if I'd been born Asian instead of German, then went back.
"In a way; all Mortals are essentially the same, after all, and are the product of their environments. Because you're coming from a different environment, I can make sure you have the requisite Skills for survival, and I can give you a variety of different... Class Choices, you could say." The list organized itself, translating to English, and now there were only eight choices.
