ABEL:
Abel breathed in deep lungfuls of fresh air as he beat his wings against the breeze. The sun was warm, the sky was clear and Abel should have been at his happiest. So did he feel so fucking shit? He hadn't dreamt of the boy for two days, two peaceful nights had passed and he had managed to sleep soundly for the first time in months.
Maybe Amber was right, maybe the boy is gone for good. Abel frowned at the thought, diving in a circle before dive bombing towards the ground. He spied familiar red and brown heads staring up at him, their hands shading their eyes from the sun. What do they want? Abel rolled his eyes, running a hand through his black curls and beating his wings to break his landing. He felt his bare feet touch the soft grass of the field. Rolling his shoulders he felt the twitching of his leathered wings as they morphed back into his glamour, burning into ink lines upon his bare back. The feeling was unnatural, and one he didn't like.
"Abe, brother dearest!" Amber grinned, bouncing towards him. Colette followed, her brown hair down for once and her dark blue eyes clear of stress.
"We have something for you!" Amber beamed, her fingers coiled around something small.
"If this is like when we were little and you'd say that, then make me close my eyes and then slap me, I'm big enough now to burn off your hair." He hissed, crossing his arms over his chest.
Amber rolled her eyes as Colette snorted, "No." his oldest sister smiled, walking behind him. No matter the age difference, Abel now towered above them both at over six feet tall. Dragonesses were tall, but not as tall as the men. Abel groaned as his sister covered his dark eyes with her hand.
"We've been looking for this for months, actually...ever since you started dreaming about your little boy crush." Amber held out his hand, spreading his fingers so he held his hand out palm up. Something small, cool and heavy for its size plumped into is palm. He blinked as Colette removed her hands.
"A ring?" He frowned down at a metal ring. It was beautiful, one side of the ring was decorated with a silver dragon coiling around a black tourmaline crystal, the other side identical with a golden dragon. "An heirloom?" he guessed, watching his sisters' faces warm into a grin.
"It offers protection to the wearer and can be used for scrying." Colette declared. "It used to be Mom's...it was how she found dad...scrying for her soul mate." Her voice trailed off, the mention of their parents still too painful no matter how many years had passed.
"We were thinking you could scry for your dream boy," Amber clasped her hands in front of her face. "We were also thinking, this boy is being sent to you for a reason."
Abel's head snapped up. Now that was interesting.
"Every supernatural knows that the vampires have ruled our world for far too long, they've become so brutal they risk exposing our world to the mortals," Colette spat, "We think this boy may be helpful in the rebellion against them. Why else would he be shown in a vision to one of the few remaining Dragons in the world?"
Oh. Abel concealed his disappointment. Not exactly the answer he was looking for.
He knew his sister was determined to subdue the rule of the vampires and had powerful allies in order to do it, just waiting for the word, but Abel knew it was impossible. Vampires had ruled since Atlas Heridicles had murdered their grandfather, and they were great in numbers and even greater in skill. Waging a rebellion against them would be suicide, and Dragons were a rare species now. Colette's hatred for the vampires was easily overshadowed by her love for her family and their linage. So few of them remained now.
"You're forgetting something," Abel slid the ring on his middle finger, waving it at his sisters and ducking the slap Amber sent his way. "We need a Witch to scry, good luck finding one willing to do that on this Island."
Colette exchanged a knowing glance towards Amber, who's pale cheeks had reddened. "Fortunately our sister doesn't know how to close her legs and has a Witch right in her grasp."
Abel smirked, "You're still fucking Wyatt?"
"YOU KNEW?" Both sisters screamed in unison. Ignoring Colette, who was pouting at the revelation her gossip had not been as valuable as she had thought, and shook his head at his older sister.
"Amb, your bedroom is right next to mine. Why do you think I sleep with headphones on?"
"Jesus fucking Christ" Amber slapped a hand against her forehead, head cast down as she followed the steps of her siblings back to the house.
"I've heard that before."
