(AN: Longer chapter, hope you don't mind! I'm not really recommending a song but audio of forest sounds so that you can help immerse yourself better into the chapter. It worked for me when writing it so just tell me if it works for you. Anyways i hope you enjoy! See you soon...)

It now felt like several hours had passed by to the group, but in reality, only an hour and thirty minutes had gone by based on Gia's wristwatch. One hour and thirty minutes on the everlasting highway with no end in sight to look forward to. All that had really changed by now was that, what once had been an open field of dirt mountains, was now a barren start leading into the thick forest up ahead. Thin trees were patched here and there from what Gia could see in the pitch-black night with only the shine of each girl's flashlights on hand. The glow of the full moon overhead didn't do much to light their way either but just unsettle the girls even more.

When Gia pointed her flashlight to the surrounding forest growing over each side of the highway she couldn't help but feel anxious. Everyone had fallen silent, eyeing the intimidating forest ahead. Their white lights scoured its sanctuary for...anything really. No one in the group had any experience with forests, especially during this time of night, so the girls weren't exactly pulling a camera to capture this moment.

"If we were to get attacked by a bear, who do you think would go first?" Sabrina questioned now towards the middle of the line. Gia sent her a questioning look. Now wasn't exactly the best time to ask that but coming from Sabrina, she'd definitely be the one to ask.

"Destiny definitely," Rosa answered, receiving a shove from her sister, though her smirk didn't falter one bit. In the complete darkness of the highway and deserted environment around it, Rosa's blue-dyed hair was the brightest thing that stood out. Apparently, bright blue did not blend into the shadows or mix of dark shades of the world right now.

"I'd outrun all of you guys." Destiny rebutted, bragging proudly over the sound of the other girls' laughter.

"Yeah, that's true. Destiny would definitely ditch us and leave us to die. Gia would be the first to go." Maria spoke up suddenly breaking into a loud laugh that the others shared with her.

"What?!" Gia burst out in complete surprise, feeling a sense of betrayal. "Why would I be the first? I'm the smartest."

"WOAH, okay, okay, sureee." Sabrina exaggerated sarcastically, flicking her hair in dismissal to the comment.

"Seriously, Gia? You the smartest? Then I must be a genius!" Maia joked through her loud laughter only offending Gia even more.

"Yeah, that is debatable, Gia. You can be stupid at times." Destiny admitted. "Just like Maria is stupid one hundred percent of the time." Maria's laughter cut short.

"You're one to talk, Destiny! You wanted to keep playing I Spy when it's pitch black outside!" Maria retorted angrily.

"I literally can't see anything out here," Rosa interjected, waving her flashlight around with frustration.

"You know what? I hope that bear eats you guys." Gia replied, offended at their teasing. But that comment only worked to receive another even louder wave of laughter, which finally made her break a smile. "You guys are so mean." Gia was completely familiar with their teasing and, in fact, she usually joined in on it as well, so it was nothing out of the ordinary for the group.

Gia glanced at the forest that now stretched right beside them on the highway. For the fourth time in a row, Gia couldn't resist the urge to look down at her watch. "9:45." She whispered through her cold breath. By now, her cheeks felt as fragile as a china plate and she desperately wanted to shove the hand carrying her flashlight back into the warmth of her jacket pocket, but she fought against the urge. The sky above was a strange aesthetic from the drab colors of the highway and its forest. The calming picture of the stars hanging above made Gia's heart ease again. "We're okay." She assured herself, chastising herself mentally for panicking before.
