Midsummers

The next day was Midsummers, a dumb formal party where the country club kooks got dressed up in hippie floral wear and celebrated summer being halfway over. And Kiara had many choice words to share about it as we drank beers on my porch. Pope was too busy staring at the freezer and as we got closer the fisherman said "Well he's got the hot little sis who he'll do anything for. And they're all gonna be at that party tonight." Barry did his dirty smile and said "Ayee, good idea." I looked at JJ and JJ said "What?" "He's talking about Sarah, Sarah Cameron." "And?" JJ replied. Pope came up behind us and asked what we were doing. "Sarah is, a, uh friend to me. She helped me get Kie's bracelet fixed. And I think that lowlife drug dealer Barry is going after her, listen." I texted Sarah "Where are you?" And she replied "Getting ready, heading to midsummers soon." I quickly got the guys in the van and Pope said "Well thanks for the ride there, saves me the trouble." "Are you working here tonight?" I asked. "Yeah, my dad needs my help with the seafood catering." When we got there I wrote a quick note and gave it to JJ. "You have your keycard on you right?" Pope said as we climbed out of the van. I went to hide on a back porch of the building, Pope went to meet up with his father and stand look out, and JJ went to change into his uniform. After awhile I heard JJ being obnoxious to guests about where they were putti g their cups, and I turned my head to see him walking over to Sarah. I smiled and I could very faintly hear him said "You've got a note, from Vlad." Sarah smiled and her eyes lit up. "Okay." She said giggling. Sarah opened it and looked around cautiously and then started coming over to where I was. "Vlad, hi." She whispered as she approached. I looked at her from head to toe, she was wearing a pretty flouncy white dress with a flower crown on her head, and I said "Wow, you look beautiful." She smiled and gave me a big hug. We swayed back and forth and she said "Oh my god, you would not believe what happened. As soon as I got home I had to-" "Yeah, yeah thats great but I came here to tell you you're in danger. Your brother's drug dealer, he said he was talking about coming after you, because your bro never paid him. And we gotta get out of here now-" She suddenly kissed her long and hard with her arms wrapped around my neck. "Sarah is that you?" Topper yelled. She pulled off of me and said "Shit." She pushed me down and I went running around the corner. I could hear as she walked up to Topper and said "Hey." "What were you doing?" Topper asked. "Um, uh Scarlett needed something." "Oh really, that didn't look like Scarlett. What's going on tonight?" "Nothing, I'm fine." she replied. He grabbed her arm and she said "Stop, get off of me." "No you're gonna tell me whats going on." "You know what's going on, i'm tired of the constant interrogation." She said. She pulled away and quickly ran inside, she walked around and met me back out on the porch, and as I asked her if she was okay, Topper turned the corner and said "What the fuck are you doing here pogue?" "Uh, nothing." I replied. "Security!" Topper shouted. The security came running around and promptly put their hands on me and started dragging me out. "Let go of him!" Sarah shouted. Sarah's dad came and put his hand on his shoulder and said "Sarah, calm down." "No, let go of him!" She shouted. They aggressively were pulling me and JJ came around and hit the guy, attempting to break me out, but it only led to another guy coming around to grab him. As they dragged both of us out, Pope looked and also ran over, and Kiara said "Stop, I invited them. I'm a member of this club." JJ reached for a glass of whiskey sitting on a table and he took a swig and said "Ladies and gentlemen, let the fine men in uniform do their job." Kie looked and smiled and he shouted "Kie, lets go, workers of the world unite." We all smiled and we broke free and started running for the parking lot. Kiara dying of laughter followed us, and Pope smiled and also started coming. "Get back here!" his dad yelled. "I'm sorry, I gotta go." Pope yelled. Sarah and I made eye contact and she smiled and ran as well, catching up with us. "Sarah Cameron, get back here!" Her father yelled. As we all united in the parking lot and frantically climbed into the van we were all laughing so hard. Then Kie suddenly noticed Sarah was climbing in and she said "What is she doing here?" "We've got no time to explain, someone is after her." I said. "No John B, you're going to tell me right now what the hell is going on." Kie shouted. "Uh, guys, I don't think we have time for that. That looks like Barry's car." JJ said. We all looked out and indeed it was his car. Pope shut the door saying "Shit, shit shit! I'm going to be in so much trouble." I quickly sped out of the parking lot and I said "Sarah is Rafe still at the party?" "No, he went home." She replied, looking very panicked. "Well home is where we're going then." I said. As I frantically sped down the road, a couple tears rolled down Sarah's cheek and I looked in the rearview mirror to see Kiara roll her eyes. Barry was chasing after us and my heart rate was at a million beats per minute. I quickly pulled into Sarah's house, mowing over half of her grass and some plants and Sarah said "John B, my dad is gonna be so pissed." "Don't worry, I'm probably going to have to fix it anyways." Barry pulled him car right next to his and he immediately got out and started banging in the window. "Aye little Sarah, get your ass out here. I need some payment from your brother." He said. Sarah starter crying and I turned around and said "Sarah, can you call Rafe and tell him to get out here and pay this asshole?" Sarah started sobbing more and she said "I'm scared." Kiara rolled her eyes and grabbed her phone from her. She held it up to her face to scan the face ID, and then she dialed Rafe. "He-hello?" he said. Barry was now fully banging on the van windows and JJ said "Knock it off." "Rafe, your drug dealer is out here tryna get to your sis because you haven't paid him." Kie said into the phone. "Who the hell is this?" he asked. "It doesn't matter, get your ass down here he's trying to hurt her." She said. "Okay? okay." Rafe said. "I'm going to say this one last time before I shoot," Barry said now pulling out a gun, "Get Sarah's ass out of the car right bow, and tell her to give me some cash." "Woah woah, okay okay don't shoot buddy, we'll give you the cash." JJ said. Sarah, sobbing in tears slowly opened the door and I ran around to stand next to her. I put my arm around her, as she slowly pulled out her wallet with Barry's gun pointed directly at her. Suddenly Rafe came running outside, screaming "Barry put the gun down I have your money." Barry turned around and Rafe came running up, giving him a huge stack of cash. Barry did a creepy smirk and then said as he climbed in the car, "You're hot and a virgin, would've been a lof of fun." I said "Hey!" and promptly punched him in the face. He proceeded to punch me in the cheek, and then I kicked him, leaving him falling to the ground beside his car. He quickly climbed in his car and I shouted "Yeah thats right, you leave and never come back." He quickly pulled out and sped off, Sarah broke down in tears in my arms. "John B, are you okay?" She said looking at my cheek. "Yeah, I'll be fine," I replied pushing her hair out of her face and wiping the tears from her cheeks, "I'm just happy you're alright. She smiled and gave me a big hug. Rafe was standing there in shock and he said "Sarah, I'm.. I... I'm sorry about that." While stumbling out his words, barely even able to stand. "Rafe, I'm telling dad about this, you need serious help." She said crying again. I hugged her in my arms for a long time until she settled down a little, and I said "Are you gonna be okay tonight?" she nodded her head and said "Yeah." "Okay, sleep well." I told her. When Rafe was walking back inside I kissed her head and she slightly smiled as she walked inside.
