The Camping Trip

The next morning we woke up and Ward and Rose still weren't back yet, and Wheezie kept asking why Sarah look depressed. I made them toast with jam and Sarah went to throw up, Wheezie looked suspicious but ran to catch the school bus. I went into the bathroom with. Sarah and held her hair back as she threw up again. She shed a couple tears and I helped her get cleaned up and then I said "I think we should take a day off from school." "John B we're going to be taking like the entire year off from school." I rolled my eyes and said "That's what homeschool is for." Sarah's parents got home that afternoon and Sarah was definitely not ready to tell them so we awkwardly avoided them as much as possible. Sarah told them she thought she had a stomach bug after they caught her throwing up, and Rose almost forced her to go to the doctor, but for some reason Wheezie had a huge meltdown and distracted her. Sarah and I were in her room, quietly looking on our phones when Wheezie knocked and abruptly came in and shut the door behind her, and then suspiciously sat on the bed in between us. "Soo, is there something you wanna tell me?" Wheezie asked. "What do you mean?" Sarah replied. "Oh come on, I know theres a huge secret going on here." Sarah rolled her eyes and sighed and Wheezie added "So I'm going to be an aunt?" Sarah hit her arm and said "Wheezie! What the fuck how do you know?" She smiled and said "It's kind of obvious." "Wheezie this is, a really serious and really bad situation, and you can't tell anyone." I said. Wheezie shrugged and said "What are you guys not exited?" "Wheezie do you really think I'm exited to be a mom at 17?" "Well I don't know, I thought it was planned or something so that you can run away with John B, because you hate all this." She said. "Wheezie, no this was not planned. And it's not a good thing, now can you please give us some space and shut your mouth?" Sarah replied. Wheezie rolled her eyes and said "Fine, but you wanna tell Rose and dad soon, because you're getting fat." She shut the door and Sarah started crying again. "Shh shh it's ok," I said wrapping my arm around her,"It will be okay." The next day we both had to go back to school and I could tell Sarah was scared. Rose and Ward were noticing how suspicious we looked, so I went outside and kissed her and whispered "If you need anything text me. And we really need to get you to a doctor soon." Sarah nodded and looked down and I grabbed her hand and said "Hey hey, everything will be alright." As soon as I got to school I was getting interrogated by Pope and JJ, who were wondering why I hadn't been answering my texts or at school. "Look, I got some serious shit going down okay?" I said as I slammed my locker and headed off. "John B can we at least meet up tomorrow?" JJ said. I scratched the back of my head and asked "What day is tomorrow?" JJ laughed and said "Thursday, jeez man is Ward working you too hard?" I sighed and said "I'll explain later." The next day after school the gang drove to Sarah's house with me, and Kie and Sarah were already there attempting to make lemonade. JJ looked at Sarah and then back at me, and it became really awkward. The night before Sarah said it was okay to tell the gang, but I was still nervous. Sarah sighed, put down a lemon and blurted out "I'm pregnant." "I kinda knew." JJ replied. Pope hit him hard in the stomach and he said "Dude, what was that for?" Sarah looked like she was about to cry and I ran over to hug her. Kiara sighed and placed her hand on her shoulder. "JJ you don't say that so someone." Kiara said. "Well sorry, it's just, you know, she's been getting a little plump, not that anythings wrong with that, body positivity all the way and everything. And JB mentioned her being sick, and he's been acting like the world is ending." "Well it kind of is." Sarah said as she shed a couple tears. "Hey, hey, don't cry, we're gonna be here for you, and John B will definitely be here for you." Kies said as she touched her. She looked at me and I said "Hey guys can we go outside and give the girls some space?" JJ grabbed the lemonade and we went outside and sat at the table as the girls were talking inside. "John B, you royally messed up. What are you going to do about college?" Pope said. "How did you manage to get her knocked up?" JJ added. "I don't know guys, I'm just really stressed, and Sarah, I just feel so bad man. She's so miserable." "Well she is pregnant." JJ said. "Hey, some ladies enjoy being pregnant. It should be a happy time." Pope said. "Oh please, she's 17 it aint gonna be a happy time. Is she gonna get an abortion or what?" JJ asked. "JJ, you're being a complete dick to him. You can't say shit like that." "It's alright," I said looking down and feeling bad. "And for your information, she doesn't want an abortion." "So you're like, gonna be a father?" JJ asked. "Yeah." I said looking up at the sky. "Hey, don't worry man, I'm sure you'll be a great father." Pope replied. I smiled and nodded and Kie opened the door and said "John B, can you come here?" I came inside and Sarah was throwing up in the sink. After she finished I helped her upstairs and helped her get into bed. She started to cry again and I kissed her head. The gang awkwardly opened the door and I was about to tell them to leave but Sarah said "You guys can come in." They came in and sat around her on the bed and Kie said "Aw Sarah, does this happen everyday?" "For awhile yeah." "Have you been to the doctor yet?" Pope asked. "No, I haven't told my parents yet, and I'm not ready for all that." Sarah replied. "Well you, uh, might wanna go soon because the early stages of pregnancy are bery important and-" "Pope, we'll go when she's ready." I said interrupting him. He nodded and Sarah said "We need to tell them soon." She looked over to me and I kissed her head. "Well before we heard about all this, we were planning on going on a camping trip this weekend." Kie said. "Well can I come?" Sarah asked, "It would be great to get away, I just can't be around my family right now." Kie looked at JJ and then said "I mean if you guys still wanna go then sure." On Friday afternoon we packed up our bags and Ward and Rose seemed very un approving of Sarah going camping with a bunch of pogues, but nevertheless she went anyway. We went to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in a little campground near the ocean and set up our tents when we got there and cooked hot dogs and drank beer. Sarah looked a little sad when everyone was drinking and I wrapped my arms around her and said "I'm sorry babe." She looked at me and said "It's alright, I'm just trying to do the right thing." The camping trip was really fun, the waves weren't too good for surfing but we played in the ocean a lot and Kiara was of course picking up every piece of trash she could find, and Sarah snuggled up next to me in our tent at night. JJ and Kie had their own tent and poor single Pope stayed in a tent by himself. When it was time to leave, Sarah was really nervous because she wanted to tell her parents as soon as she got home. When we pulled into the driveway, Sarah immediately started crying and I grabbed her hand and said "Don't worry honey." When we went inside she ran upstairs to throw down her bags and when she came downstairs I came out of my room and she looked at me while shaking. "Well, how was the trip?" Ward asked smiling. Sarah was shaking more and I came and put my arm around her. "D-dad, can we go into the living room?" Sarah asked. "Oh, sure honey." Ward said. We went and sat down, and I grabbed her hand and squeezed it. She looked at me and I knew I couldn't do it so I kissed her cheek and whispered "I got it." Ward sat down and Rose came in, standing behind him. I took a deep breath and said "Sarah's pregnant."
