The community of "Los Rosales" had already had its best days. Due to government mismanagement of resources, this region was too lacking.

They lacked practically everything, from paved roads to basic services such as electricity and water.

For that reason, every morning Doña Leticia had to travel a distance of approximately 2 km to reach the river and thus fill a large wooden container with the vital liquid.

Unfortunately one day Leticia became seriously ill and she had no choice but to send her son to do this work. Carmelo (that was the boy's name) had already turned 14 years old, so at first glance it would seem that it was not a very difficult task that his mother asked him to do. However, there was a serious problem. Carmelo had serious difficulties walking, which was a setback.

In spite of everything, Carmelo was determined to carry out this task. He picked up the bucket and tied it behind his back, took two rods and used them as crutches. He was well aware of the situation and knew that it might take him several hours to reach the riverbank.

With about 35 minutes elapsed, the teenager had barely advanced half a kilometer.

On the other hand, the sun fell heavily on his head, which caused the beads of sweat to cover his eyes and prevent him from seeing clearly. He paused to rest for a moment on the side of the road to wipe his face with his shirt when suddenly one of his knees buckled, knocking him to the ground in a crash. He wanted to get up, but the only thing he did in each of his attempts was get closer and closer to the gutter. He rolled down the hill until a tree stopped him.

Carmelo held onto his trunk and was finally able to stand up. Spontaneously, the boy began to hear his mother's voice desperately asking for help. This voice came from a place not far from where Carmelo was. The teenager advanced to the place where the voice was heard. When he was close to arriving, the words stopped unexpectedly and an object appeared in front of him.

It was a well overflowing with water, it was the most crystalline water he had ever seen. He took the rope and began to pull, waiting for the end to come out so he could adapt it to his bucket.

Meanwhile due to an oversight, Carmelo released his bucket and it, which was on the edge of the well, went to the bottom.

"I have to get it out," he thought.

Seeing that the water filled more than half of the well, he imagined that the easiest thing would be to go into the well and remove the wooden bucket.

He did so, and it was then that a scream of terror echoed off the stone walls. A peasant who was passing by saw the wooden sticks that were next to the old well, which had been dry and disabled for more than 50 years. Peeking out, he stared in horror at the shattered body of a young man, Carmelo...
