Maya's POV

Her eyes shot directly up to meet mine.

Maya: Your hand has not left your stomach the whole time we have been laying here.

Andy: The baby has bands of amniotic tissue wrapped around its legs. If they get tighter its legs could fall off.

Maya: Oh Andy.

I pulled her in for a hug and she cried some more. I found my eyes watering, but I held the tears in.

Maya: Okay I am going to go get Sullivan.

I left the room and went into the beanery. Everyone was in the beanery making dinner and talking to the guys from LA.

Maya: Chief Sullivan you are needed in your office.

Sullivan: I don't have an appointment today.

Maya: Sir, it is important.

Sullivan: Captain what is it about?

Maya: Sir, it is about the baby.

I saw fear flash in his eyes and the room went silent. Miller dropped the spatula in his hand and Sullivan raced to his office. One tear fell from my eyes and I quickly wiped it away before getting trampled by everyone wanting to get in his office. I ran to the door and blocked the team from going in.

Maya: Give them space guys. They need to figure it out on their own.

I sat down by the door and listened. The team joined me on the floor shortly.

Andy's POV

I saw Robert fly through the door and broke down into tears. He caught me in a hug and I cried my eyes out. I cried for a while before he spoke up.

Sullivan: Andy what is wrong with the baby?

Andy: There are amniotic bands wrapped around its limbs. They could tighten and it could lose its legs.

We hugged again and this time we were both crying. We hugged for awhile before he spoke again.

Sullivan: We should go home.

I just nodded at him. I didn't have any words or tears left in me. He made me sit on the couch and got his bag ready so we could leave. He grabbed my hand and and we opened the door to the whole team. They all stood up at the sound of the door opening.

Vic: Guys we are so sorry.

Maya: Come here.

I went to hug her again and this time the whole team joined in the hug. I let out a few more sobs before I pulled back and wiped the tears.

Sullivan: We are going to go home.

Maya: Take all the time you need.

He led me out to the car and we drove home. I got home and took a shower and went to bed. Robert joined me later and we cuddled until I fell asleep. The next morning I woke up and left Robert a note. I got in the car and drove to my dads grave.

Andy: Hey dad I'm sorry I haven't come seen you in a while. I just needed some advice. It is about the baby, it has amniotic bands wrapped around its legs and if they get any tighter its legs could fall off. I don't know what to do. If they operate it could lose its legs, but if they don't its legs could also fall apart.

I sat there for a while before he came to see me.

Robert: Hey I saw you note and I knew you would come here.

Andy: Yeah I needed his advice.

Robert: You didn't tell me the options for the baby.

Andy: We can wait it out and hope the the baby's  legs don't fall off or they can operate. There are risks to both sides. Carina wants me to go back in next week to monitor them till we make a decision.

Robert: Come on let's go home and talk it out.

We got up and drove home separately meeting at the house. I went inside and changed into some leggings and a sports bra. I tried to go as slow as I could to delay this conversation. When I was finally ready I grabbed a blanket and made my way to the couch.

Robert: So what are the pros and cons of each situation?

Andy: If I have the surgery and it goes well the baby will have both of it's limbs.

Robert: But, if it goes wrong I could lose you and the baby or just one of you. I'm not willing to take that risk.

Andy: If we wait the baby might lose both of its legs. We need to ask ourselves what kind of life we want our baby to live?

Robert: It can survive without a leg, but it can't survive if it is dead.

Andy: Yes it could survive, but what life would it live?

Robert: Are we really disagreeing about this?

Andy: I guess we are.

Robert got up and left the room. He was hurt by all of this and I didn't see it earlier. I got up and went to our room to grab a shirt. I walked past his side of the closet and froze. I could smell him all over his side and it comforted me. I was going to grab one of my t-shirts, but I opened his drawers and grabbed one of his instead.
