Andy's POV
Robert and I still haven't decided what we were going to do for the baby, but we were here at the doctors. I was called back and they did some simple things before Carina came in. I am 23 weeks pregnant and we had another appointment to monitor the baby's bands.
Carina: How are you feeling Andy?
Andy: I'm good.
Carina: Okay well let's take a look at this baby.
She put the gel on my stomach and started the ultrasound.
Carina: Baby looks good and is measuring on track, but the band on its left leg is tightening.
Robert: What does that mean?
Carina: The limb doesn't look great. We have two options we can take you in now and try to save the leg or we can wait and it will probably fall off in the next few days.
Andy: We haven't decided on what to do yet.
Carina: It is okay I will give you some time and you can decide.
She left the room and I looked into his eyes and we both knew what to do.
Robert: They are going to try and save the leg.
Andy: Yes they are.
Robert: I will get Carina.
Carina: Okay let's take you up for surgery.
Robert's POV
I made my way down to the waiting room and I needed to call in and tell them that Andy and I won't be at shift today.
ON THE PHONE
Robert: Hey Bishop I was just calling to tell you that Andy and I are not coming in for shift today.
Maya: Sir if you mind me asking is everything okay?
Robert: Andy is in surgery, the band on the babies left leg got tighter so they are going to remove the right and left hopefully saving the leg.
Maya: Okay, I will grab the team and we will be there in a few minutes.
Robert: Bishop you don't need to be here.
Maya: Respectfully sir, Andy is family and we are there for family.
Robert: Okay.
Maya's POV
I got off the phone with Chief and the went to find the team. When I found them they were eating a late breakfast in the beanery.
Maya: Load up we are going to the hospital.
Jack: Captain what's up?
Maya: Andy is in surgery.
Vic: What happened?
Maya: She is in surgery. They are trying to save the babies left leg.
Travis: Okay let's go.
We got to the hospital and went to the waiting room.
Maya: How is she?
Robert: They are stable, but it will be another hour until we know anything.
Travis: How are you sir?
Robert: Nervous, worried, scared, but hopeful.
We sat down and waited for any news on Andy. It had been about an hour and a half when Carina turned the corner.
Robert: How is she?
Carina: She is in recovery and they are both doing well. We were able to save the left leg and removed the band from the right leg. She should wake up in a few minutes. Her room number is 318.
Robert: Thanks.
Robert's POV
I walked to Andy's room and peeked my head through. She was just waking up.
Robert: Hey. How are you feeling?
Andy: The baby.
Robert: Is fine. They removed both bands.
Andy: That's good.
Robert: I love you.
Andy: We love you too.
We were just talking when Carina walked in.
Carina: How are you feeling Andy?
Andy: Good. How long do I have to be here?
Carina: I want to be able to discharge you tomorrow, but there is something I wanted to tell you guys in private.
Andy: Is something wrong with the baby?
Carina: No the baby is fine, but while we were in there we got a good look at your uterus. The tube that transfers the fertilized egg to your uterus is damaged. You would be lucky to be able to have a viable pregnancy again. It is a miracle that this baby made it.
Andy: So you are saying there is no chance.
Carina: We can go in after you deliver the baby and try to clear the blockages, but it might not work.
Robert: Is there anything else?
Carina: I got a pretty good look at your little one in there and if you want to know I can tell you the gender for sure.
She turned her head towards me and in that moment I knew that we wanted to know. I put my hand on her still small belly and looked back at Carina.
Robert: Please tell us.
Carina: This little one is one hundred percent a girl.
Andy: We're having a girl.
Carina: Yeah you're having a little girl.
I moved my eyes to her bump and I felt complete. I had the most important people in the world right next to me and everything would be okay.
Andy's POV
We were having a daughter. A little girl to add to our pack. Carina left the room shortly after and I placed my hand on top of his.
Robert: Hey little one, the doctors took those bands off your little legs. You and your momma had surgery so both of you need to rest. I will keep an eye out for the team you should get some rest.
Andy: Hey when the team gets here will you not tell them that she is a girl.
Robert: What ever you want. Go to sleep both of you need it.
