Rin woke ready to fight as her body felt heavy and she groaned as she looked around her surroundings. She wasn't in a cell, but a fluffy bed and she wasn't in spirit world either. The air wasn't dry and suffocating her. Where was she? And what exactly happened back at the castle.
"You shouldn't be so quick to move. It could make you rather dizzy." Her eyes darted up to the silent, but deadly Kurama who walked up to her with a cup of something steamy with a rather intoxicating aroma. "It's just tea. Not poison." He had to reassure her.
Rin accepted the cup and sipped allowing the contents rejuvenate her body back to full health. "I suppose we wait for Koenma to come and take me back there?" She asked, taking another sip already accepting her fate.
Kurama sighed and sat in the chair right next to her. His beautiful green eyes shone in the light as he looked at her with sincerity and kindness. In through his depths though there was something Rin could sense. A hidden Gem, a fight within him, the dangerous nature that lurked behind those pretty eyes. "No. We are hiding you out. I hope you are comfortable in my home."
Rin looked shocked then as she sat up. "Your house?"
"Yes. Hiei insisted you be looked after. It wouldn't shock me if he was protecting his little sister in his own, malignant way." Kurama folded his legs and placed his hand, the part between the thumb and pointy finger, to his chin. "Koenma has been really on edge lately in finding your father. To imprison you when you are innocent in all of this truly has me baffled. Perhaps it was a mere ploy just to keep another artifact he lost close at hand."
Rin scoffed as she finally could place her legs on the other side of the bed. "I knew I couldn't trust that wimpy asshole. Yusuke said he just wanted to talk...I don't know where Rizo is and if I did know there would be no way in hell I would tell him." Rin stood folding her arms as she looked out the window, mind made up and pissed all over.
"Yusuke feels terrible about what happened up there and the crew should be here shortly once the heat dies down."
Rin clenched her fists and then her teeth followed. "It's just so stupid!" She screamed out which made Kurama laugh softly.
"Yes reminds me of someone indeed." He muttered to himself. He stood then causing Rin to glance at him and move back as if he would hurt her. "No need to fear me attacking. If I wanted you dead I could've easily done it while you slept. We are your allies, Rin. You have to believe us when I say we are on your side."
Rin relaxed a little. "There is something more than meets the eye with you, Kurama." His stare now of more confusion. "I want to trust you, but deep deep down in your very soul there is a darkness there. Something that tells me you are dangerous."
Kurama looked shocked. "It seems you know far more than I initially gave you credit for. Forgive me for assuming you human when you clearly are something far beyond that." He smirked, as he bowed lightly. "You are correct and seeing the danger in me. For I am what you see and I am also what you cannot. An S demon like you born under the name Yoko."
The name caused Rin to gasp. "The legendary fox demon?"
"Yes well...I have left that past behind me. It is who I am and not at the same time." He then looked at Rin with challenge. "You are far more wiser and there is something behind your eyes as well. A challenge perhaps?" Kurama held her hand up to her dismay, but Rin was far to intrigued to turn away from his touch. She watched him study her palm as if reading her entire life. Their eyes met again this time it caused Rin to take a step back as her heart beat a little to fast and her breathing picked up pace. The feeling of being completely relaxed with this stranger terrified her more than her father did.
"I see a woman who hadn't been out in the world to much, fear of abandonment which causes her to not want to get close with others. Smart and confident, but distant and naive all at once."
They were silent for a moment. Rin needing air to breathe remembered the handcuffs that were gone. A good transition to change the subject because Kurama was right about her. She would never admit that to him though. "What happened to the handcuffs?"
Kurama smiled as he backed away from her sensing her being uncomfortable. "Might have had some help from Koenma's assistant, Botan. Nothing is unlockable."
"Right. I suppose I should thank you and my brother for now. If you are really trying to help me then...Thanks. I'm also sorry for threatening Yusuke."
Kurama laughed then as if she really thought she had hurt his friend. "Yusuke didn't fight back because he didn't want to hurt you. In fact I believe he is intrigued by you more then anything. He sees something in you he has in his self. So you won't have to worry about his feelings."
Rin opened her mouth to speak, but both their eyes turned to the window. Definitely unfamiliar demon energy. Before she could dodge herself, Kurama wrapped his arms around her pulling her down, but immediately before anything could hit either of them she used her powers, a purple glow in her eyes created a shield in her hands that stopped the energy blast form hitting them, but at the same time it blew the entire apartment up.
"Kurama! Rin!" They heard Yusuke's voice in a panic. Rin removed the debris from on top of them to reveal they were fine. Yusuke sighed relieved then anger took over. "Who the fuck did this?"
Kurama's eyes scanned the area and saw Hiei already in pursuit of the attacker. Rin groaned and her feet were now stepping stones as she climbed her way up the building across the street to follow Hiei. Yusuke wanted to warn her to stop, but couldn't help the admiration on his face. Rin wasn't the normal woman that needed his help, that needed saving. She was on par with the rest of them, whether she knew it or not.
Rin used her powers to create something of a hoover board as she floated over the buildings catching up with Hiei, gliding with every step. The demon in their sights now attacked again, a larger energy blast aimed for Rin, but she held up her shield again, but used her other hand to twirl throwing purple energy knives to the attacker. Hiei attacked a punch, but there was a force field in his way which made him groan annoyed.
Rin's knives pierced through the field though, hitting the attacker in the arm right before his blast hit her shield. He groaned holding his side, cursing under his breath as he continued to run. "Hey Rin! A little help!" Yusuke yelled from down below. Rin smirked as she saw him running to keep up with them. She placed her powers under him like a trampoline that bounced Yusuke up to far as he screamed, holding onto the building before he fell.
Kurama used his rose whip to latch onto the building swinging up and running with them. "Try to keep up." Rin winked at them as she ran next to Hiei who disappeared first, faster than them and caught up to the attacker, sword out this time.
He slashed quickly, but the attacker held up a shield now to weak to put up his original field around his self. "You are his son. You must die as well!" The attacker slashed forwards, but Hiei moved faster than him. He was now behind the attacker, sword under his throat.
"How do you know me?"
The attacker smirked evilly. "Your father has made some pretty fucked up enemies and someone has to pay for his penance. That bitch.." Hiei placed the sword closer to his chin. "She will get what's coming to her."
Before he could finish blood spilled from his forehead as a purple knife penetrated even his thoughts. Hiei looked to Rin as she looked upset by the attackers words. Recognition on her face. "You know this clown?" Her brother asked. Rin nodded slowly, angrily. Kurama and Yusuke caught up to them as Rin looked to the sky. So it was true. The goons coming after her had to be from the other clan. The Danaka Clan.
