"Senior Prom finally," exclaimed Shasha as she plopped herself down on Julia's bed. "Who would be your date Leni?"
"Me, Myself and I," Leni answered as she eats two of the cookies Julia's mother gave them as they went upstairs to Julia's bedroom. "Why? Has someone asked you?" She asked as she sat down on Julia's swivel chair and twirl herself on it.
"Leonard has given me a hint, I was waiting for him to finally ask me," Shasha answered dreamily as she stared at her friend at the desk.
"He's the Math geek right?" Leni asked. "I think he won the recent Math Quiz our teacher gave last week". Leni added as she fondly keeps on swiveling the chair to and fro.
"Yep, he's the one," Shasha smiled. "And you Julia?" She asked looking at her friend who is seated by the window looking down at the garden below. One thing her friend hasn't changed through the years is her love for plants.
"Pft.. no need to ask that," Leni answered. "Liam has been determined to date our girl here for the past month."
"And he hasn't succeeded yet, this fort is strong," Shasha replied proudly.
"He hasn't because he was never sincere," Julia answered. "But I think these past few days he's changed."
"Maybe he finally sees you as you are and not just some random girl he chose to get back at his ex." Leni said. "or it could be that you have lifted down your guard and now you haven't recognized the insincere from the sincere actions," Leni added.
That has put Julia to thinking and rethinking about Liam's actions. Maybe she was letting her guard down. Liam has not changed he was still irritating her with his outrageous declarations of love but she can sense his sincerity whenever he will help her in carrying her books or carrying the groceries her mother would often let her do. They haven't kissed again but they have become friends.
"Well, he did ask me to the prom and he mentioned too that David would like to ask Leni out as his prom date," Julia said lightly but closely watching her friend's reaction to her statement.
"What? Oh my God Leni, David is hot! You must say yes and say goodbye to your prom date "me, myself, and I" Shasha exclaimed as she propped herself on the bed and looked at Leni straight in the eye.
"This is High School Prom and is the last Prom that we will be attending. Soon we will be separated and will not be seeing each other again except during reunion that is if you will not become a hotshot lawyer in new york and too busy to mind the likes of us here in this small town we called home." Shasha said with a little drama.
"I would never be a stranger, I never wanted to work outside of our town, there's plenty of things to do here," Leni defended herself. Then she stood up and shouted,
"Tell me you are not joking!" and jumped happily to where Julia was seated.
"I was not joking," Julia said as she combed her hair and braided it. The light from the window has made her skin porcelain white that Leni envied while her skin would always be dark brown from her grand mother's side.
"Oh my God, I like him really like him," she said. "David was in my Philosophy class and he can really make a good rebuttal statement".
"Ha! and I think you're crazy about him because of his muscles, and gorgeous body," Shasha said laughing, "somethings just don't change," she continued to say. And they all laugh.
"Well, a gorgeous body just won't do when you're talking to a moron," Julia added laughing. Just then her phone rings looking at it she said to Leni, "I think you have to take this call". Leni took the phone and went outside to the balcony to take the call.
Julia's mother chose that moment too to give them a tray of another batch of cookies and a pitcher of iced tea. Shasha took the tray and put them in the dresser.
"Everything all right in here?" her mom asked. Julia gave her mother a wink and a thumbs up to let her know that nothing unusual is happening in her room.
Later that afternoon she got a call from Liam and he asked her about her dress color to wear to the prom.
"I haven't chosen my dress for the Prom yet, my mom has a last-minute order change to her menu so she hasn't found the time to accompany me for my dress shopping," she said.
"Maybe your mother would let me accompany you?" Liam suggested.
"I don't think she would let you, but I can say that Leni will be with us," she said.
"Okay, I'll meet you, girls, at the mall then," Liam said as he hangs up.
