A division of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, with responsibility for creatures defined as “beasts.”
The Beast Division was established by Grogan Stump, Minister for Magic, in 1811.
It was headed by Newt Scamander after 1917.
The Division includes:
• Centaur Liaison Office
No centaur has ever actually used this service. In Ministry jargon, saying that an employee has been "sent to the Centaur Office" means that person is about to be sacked.
• Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures
They ordered Buckbeak to be destroyed.
• Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau
• Pest Sub-Division
Pest Advisory Board
• Werewolf Registry
manages the Werewolf Register
• Werewolf Capture Unit
• Ghoul Task Force
removes ghouls from dwellings that have passed into Muggle hands
Centaurs were classified under Burdock Muldoon of the Wizards Council as "Beasts" and later by his successor Elfrida Clagg as "Beings". The centaurs then refused to attend a Council meeting in protest at the exclusion of merpeople from "Being" status, and eventually both centaurs and merpeople asked and were granted the right to manage their own affairs.
