I wish I could say yes this time but I am sorry,
I can't...
It took years to build this bridge,
Scraping my hands at every plank,
Applying a nail when one became loose under our footsteps,
After many repairs,
It became unstable,
From all of the trampling of your ferocious stomps,
The splinters of such a craft,
Prick at my heal,
The blood oozing from the punctures,
I am sorry if I can no longer bear the pain,
I am sorry that I cannot fix something that is so damaged.
I must finally take a stand on feet that are forever bruised,
Limping as I drag the rest of my tools,
So I may build a structure that will be appreciated,
With a mallet, that is obviously used.
