Prologue
Peter Parker was out , on a school night. His excuse was "For the greater good." and "It's my responsibility." Flipping through the night-lit streets of New York on a rainy night "Spiderman" was about to turn around from Brooklyn, and head back to his aunt's house in Queens, when he heard a car alarm go off. Twisting his body like a trained dancer he spun around.
"Stupid stupid stupid stupid!" a female voice said in a hushed tone. She wiped the rain away from her blue eyes, trying to silence the car alarm and finish the job at the same time. Pushing back the sleeves of a bedraggled jacket to reveal a pair of thin gloves and coffee toned skin, she jiggled the wire in the door a little more and the lock finally popped open. Grabbing the chocolate on the dash and the purse in the passenger's seat she spun around, and found herself face to face with the masked hero.
"Hey kid!" Peter said, noticing that the girl, even with a black mask covering the lower half of her face and black hair covering her eyes, looked about his age. "You know that stealing is wrong right?" he bantered, then shot a web. The girl took off running and just barely dodged the projectile. But instead of running toward one of the crowded streets she darted into an alleyway. Peter rounded the corner, and found... nothing. The alleyway was rain drenched, with a middle aged man passed out on the heap of trash bags. Dumbfounded, Peter put the oddity down to a lack of sleep. He assumed he'd get a chance to catch her again. After all, she was only a kid, she stood no chance against a mutant like himself.
As soon as the web-slinger swung away to get some sleep, the man in the corner melted away in a subtle flash of green light, revealing the smirking girl. Too easy, she thought. Stuffing a piece of the ill-gotten chocolate in her mouth, she started running down the street. Because assuming that someone was normal almost always guarantees that they're not.
