Third-Person POV

Erwin was genuinely bewildered at his boyfriend's reaction. His arrogant words opened an old scar for Armin that took weeks to heal, and it was still aching his mind. Mikasa and Levi glared daggers through him.

Armin was insanely dear to his best friends. If someone even looked at him wrong, they would be prepared to stand before a judge and jury. To make him cry, was a death wish. Levi was clear that if it mattered to Eren, it mattered to him. If Eren was mad at his brother, so was he.

"Oi, Erwin," Levi snarled, "what the hell was that? You're already on Armin's bad side, and you go and say something like that?"

Erwin rolled his eyes and crossed his arm immaturely, complaining, "Look, he has always been overly sensitive! I don't know what to do. Everything I do or say makes him upset."

Mikasa defended, "I don't blame him after what Jean did! Are you that soulless?"

The blond furrowed his brow and asked, "What are you talking about? What did Kirstein do to him?"

Levi never knew Jean until this morning, so even he was pondering what the horse face did. Mikasa was hesitant to tell them, wishing she had asked Armin's permission to reveal such a personal story. Her subconscious told her she should. It was what's best for her close friend.

"Jean doesn't like me at all," Mikasa began. "It's a way to hurt him. Jean and Armin used to date seriously after coming back from summer camp. Everything was fine until-"

Her tone darkened, "-Jean started becoming too controlling, like pinning him to a wall and choking him. Armin made it clear he was fed up. When he didn't get what he wanted from Armin, the horse face caught an eye for Eren and flirted with him. Eren, of course, told Armin and smack Jean across the face a few times. Armin finally broke up with Jean after he forcefully kissed Eren at a party we went to about two months ago."

"Since then, he's been up in my business to make Eren jealous and Armin upset," She sighed in conclusion.

"Why didn't you and Eren stop him?" Levi shot at the girl.

"Because he told us not to and that he was going to take care of it. We did give him a piece of our mind though every chance we got."

Erwin and his brother soaked in the realization of Armin's past. The brute was hit with heavy guilt as he noticed all of his behavior matched Jean's, besides the cheating part. He was too controlling and selfish, and Armin still stood by him. The boy wanted to immediately apologize to Armin; Mikasa could see it.

"You might not be able to see him for the rest of the day," she noted, pulling out her phone. "It's clear he doesn't want to see you."

With that final comment, the girl hid behind her phone screen, secretly texting Eren. She was wondering if she was able to give Erwin a good wack across the back of his head.

Erwin ran a hand through his hair and mumbled, "Damn, I'm such an idiot."

"Yeah," Levi scowled, "you really are."

The three sat in silence until the bell ringed for class. Mikasa never received an answer from Eren, so she settled with a solid shove to the ground. Levi couldn't help but hold out a hand and help the guilty blond off the ground. Sure, he loathing Erwin for being so rude, but family came first to him--even when it wasn't a good idea.

"You need help," Levi pointed out. "By the way, when I cross my limits, I know I messed up."

Erwin nodded, laying a hand on his brother's shoulder understandingly. Levi did push his boundaries when he gripped Eren's wrist too tight, but he did show his regret afterward. The raven meant it when he promised his lover that he wouldn't hurt him again. Levi might not have been one to express regret, but to bring pain to Eren, it was nothing but.

The school day past slowly for everyone. The drama had put their focus on hold, making them struggle to pay attention. Lunch periods separated them: Levi and Mikasa having first, Erwin having second, and Eren and Armin having third. It was a sort of relief to have been split up like they were. Keeping Erwin to himself was what Armin wanted more than anything at that moment.

First lunch was new to Levi and Mikasa since they never sat together, but the recent events brought the two ravens together. They didn't talk much, just enjoyed the peace between them. Levi was excited to tell Eren, but Mikasa made it more personal.

Right before leaving for their classes, Mikasa praised, "Levi, you're actually pretty cool. Not only do you make Eren happy, but you know the importance of family. I respect you for that."

Second lunch was quieter for Erwin. He took the time to think about everything in a new light. Third lunch was calming for Armin; only having a best friend to talk to was the tranquility he needed after the disaster of a morning.

However, Armin tensed the conversation by asking, "Eren, did you ever like it when Jean flirted with you?"

"What?" Eren yelped. "Of course not! He's such a pig. Plus, he was your boyfriend at the time. I would've been super guilty and probably have told you."

The blond was satisfied with his friend's answer and happily ate his lunch. It was an honest answer. Eren could never keep a secret from Armin, even if he tried. It was a basic fact: If Eren knew it, Armin did too.

"By the way," Armin added, "I'm probably gonna take the back way to my house to avoid Erwin."

"Are you two officially over?"

"No," Armin answered hesitantly, "Mikasa might have gotten through to him, but I just want to be alone after school today."

Eren consoled, patting his back gently, "Hey, I get it. You can text me if you need anything."

"Thanks, Eren."
