Our Summer

Goodbye.

It was a solemn morning. Everyone was packing up in silence. We get to keep every piece of clothing and stuff like that, so I used both my duffle bag and my camp-issued backpack for storage.

"Don't forget t-to make the bed..." Daevd tried to sound cheery. Noel complied, then went to comfort his lover.

I sighed. At least one relationship is going well.

Tears began to well in my eyes as I stared blankly at the floor.

Stupid Evelynne...
Stupid bet.
Stupid emotions.

...stupid Andrew.

"Hey Drew... You never did tell us why you chose her," Ted pipped up. I scoffed.

"I didn't choose her, remember? You guys picked for me and it was pure luck that she happened to like me too," I snapped. Everyone went silent and sat on their own beds, except for Noel who was still with Daevd.

"You still fell in love with her though," Daevd mentioned. I shook my head.

"No I didn't, I jus-"

"Shut up. You love her. And don't deny it, because it's clear as day. If you didn't love her, you wouldn't have risked your life to find her in the middle of a lightning storm. You love her," Noel cut me off.

"No, I don't! Alright?!" I yelled.

"YES YOU DO, YOU FUCKING MORRON!" Noel screamed back. Daevd placed his hand on Noel's shoulder, rubbing softly. Everything went back to silence.

"No matter what I feel, it's too late... God, why couldn't I tell that it wasn't her?" I growled, balling my fist and smacking the bed.

"Did she speak at all?" Daevd spoke out.

"No..." I answered, burying my face in my hands.

"Probably to set it up so that you wouldn't be able to recognize her voice," Noel growled, deep in thought. We all sank down.

"Ted, you talked to the girls last night right? How're they all doing?" Daevd shot up suddenly. I jumped a little.

"Mila was getting some rest, Sammy was worried, Kelsey was just Kelsey, and Esmeralda... wasn't doing so well," Ted responded. I felt my chest knotting.

"That's... expected," I breathed. God, it stings so badly...

"So... how about we all write down our numbers? Since we don't know when we'll be picked up today," Daevd quipped. We all nodded and he grabbed a sheet of paper. As expected, we all wrote down our numbers.

There was a knock at the door while Ted was signing. Daevd went to answer it. There was slight talking before he slammed the door in their face. I felt my heart jolt.

"Daevd! Who was it?" Noel asked. Daevd shook his head.

"C'mon, you've got to tell us," I added.

"It was the damn kuja," Daevd growled. Noel was completely still for a solid 30 seconds before snapping out of it.

"I thought that she wasn't allowed to see you?" he asked, still kinda spaced out.

Daevd shook his head, "she isn't."

"Who?" I questioned.

"My-"

"Batshit crazy stepmother who kicked him and Ella out of the house," Noel finished for him.

"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that man," I offered my condolences. He smiled faintly.

"Thanks. At least now we can stay at our own place. Feel free to visit anytime!" Daevd perked up. I nodded and smiled.
