Chapter 3

"Captain...?" Daichi turned around and expected to find Shōyō again, for the second time that day, but came face to face with Yamaguchi.

"Oh. What is it Yamaguchi?"

"Can I stay longer today? After practise I mean... I want to practise serving..." Yamaguchi fiddled nervously with his fingers.

"Hinata is actually doing that... you'll have to ask him if it's ok for you to join him. Now that I think about it... it's been a week since he's been staying longer... I'll have to check with Takeda-sensei that he's not doing anything stupid. If you'll excuse me." Daichi waved and turned around, jogging to find Takeda.

Yamaguchi looked unsure but turned on his heel and began searching for Shōyō. He passed by students and teachers from his classes, greeting back those that greeted him. Suddenly Meng came into view.

"Hey...! You're Hinatas friend, right?" he stopped her, and she nodded.

"Yeah, why?"

"I'm searching for him. I need to ask him something." she nodded and gestured for him to follow her. They entered Hinatas classroom and walked to where Shōyō and Akihiko sat conversing quietly. Yamaguchi was still surprised that THE Hinata Shōyō only had two friends in class he spoke with.

"Yo Shōyō. Freckles here wants to ask you something." Meng pointed at Yamaguchi who was behind her before taking a seat opposite from Akihiko. Shōyō turned around and looked at said person whose fingers were roaming all over his cheeks as if trying to hide his freckles.

"I'll be right back. Don't take my food if I don't say so." Shōyō said, slapping Mengs hand which was creeping to steal his food. Akihiko laughed.

Shōyō got up and walked out of the classroom with Yamaguchi.

"Braids today I see?" Akihikos voice was heard from outside.

"Yeah! I don't know what came over me and decided to style it, but I just found myself braiding my hair..." Meng laughed, Shōyō looked back at them with a smile before turning to Yamaguchi.

"They really fit together..." Yamaguchi said, tearing his gaze from the two love birds and looked at Shōyō.

"Yeah... I'm rooting for them..." Shōyō chuckled "Anyway, you wanted to ask me something?"

"Oh, yeah! Well, I was thinking... could I join you after practise today? I need to practise on serving and I think I need extra time..." Yamaguchi asked, Shōyōs eyes widened "Did I say something wrong?"

"What? No! Not at all. It's just..." Shōyō looked unsure, he sighed "Can I trust you to keep a secret?" Shōyō looked up at Yamaguchi with judging eyes. Yamaguchi felt as if the shorter male was staring him down.

"Yes..." Yamaguchi whispered. What was so important that Shōyō didn't want him to know?

"Alright... I shouldn't be so trusting but I'm trusting you! Ok? You can stay after practise but don't tell the team or coach anything. I don't want them to know." Shōyōs voice was serious and his brows scrunched in uncertainty.

"I won't...! I mean! I won't tell the team anything! Not that I won't keep it a secret. Anyway, thanks." Yamaguchi stated and turned around to walk away but stopped and faced Shōyō once again "Should I be surprised?"

"Well... yes I guess... just don't freak out? I don't think you will freak out but just in case..." Shōyō smiled and Yamaguchi nodded.

"Alright then. See you at practise!" Yamaguchi waved and walked away. Shōyō waved back and entered the classroom just in time to see Meng pushing his food away and hiding her mouth that was filled with food.
