Later, the Doctor was in Rose and John's bedroom still doing research and Rose could only presume, trying to find out why he had been pulled through the void. She had wanted to talk to him. She wasn't sure what about or why she wanted to talk to him but she knew she would most probably never have him in her life again. Correction, he would always be in her life. He had shown her the universe, how to live a better, fuller life and if she was honest, he had been her first true love. Rose was sat in the lounge of the big house pondering this when her mum, Jackie, walked in. "I don't know why you're sat there. Why aren't you talking to him? Or investigating some trouble or other? That's what you and him do, isn't it?" Jackie queried to her daughter.
"It was. But he's got a new life and I've got a new life. Can't be doing all that anymore." Rose attempted a smile as she said this. It was a feeble attempt. Jackie looked down at her daughter and tenderly cupped her face, wishing she could take away the hurt that Rose obviously felt. "Well, for heavens sake would you go make sure that he isn't ruining your bedroom. I am not having you and John sharing with me and your father. You father snores as it is, let alone with John in there aswell!" Rose put the mug of tea she had been holding down and got up. Jackie recognised another attempt at a smile. "Fine! I'll go. But if he has done anything up there, I am not accepting blame for it."
The Doctor had been on Rose's laptop all afternoon trying to find any news coverage of any form of spaceship or starship. He ran his hands through his hair and sighed, he would probably be doing this tomorrow aswell. Although, tomorrow he had wanted to go back to Torchwood and do a little more work with their facilities. He put his face in his hands and sighed again.
"Not going too well, huh?" Said a voice from the doorway. He spun his office chair around and there was Rose, leant against the doorframe. She smiled then wandered in, perching on the end of the bed. "What have you found so far then?" She asked him.
"Well, nothing really. I've been trying to find anything that has been happening in the last couple of weeks. You know, starship, spaceship, bees disappearing. That kind of thing, but, nothing. It's like whatever has pulled the void open enough for the TARDIS to fall through, is being.... protected, by you humans."
"If it's threatening the entire universe, why would someone protect it? Surely, you'd want your home planet to survive." She saw a look glance across his face, clearly that remark had struck a chord with him. "Sorry, didn't think when I said that." She muttered. Like a child apologising when they've been told off. "No need to be sorry, just saying what we're both thinking. Have you noticed anything? I mean, you work for Torchwood and you have frequent communications with UNIT, someone must have noticed something?" He looked hopefully across at her. "Nothing?"
"Nope, sorry. I only came up here 'cos mum wanted to make sure you didn't break something."
"Didn't come up here just to see me then? Cheers for that Rose. I travel to another planet to see you and you're worried about your valuables. You're as bad as Queen Victoria, remember her, she got chased by a werewolf and still worried about her valuables." He said this with a smile, clearly joking.
"I got her to say we are not amused. You still owe me a tenner for that, you know."
"And I still don't carry money, what a shame."
"Yeah." Then an awkward silence fell. Neither of them knew what to say. Then the Doctor finally broke the silence and said "So you've still got him then? Humany me?"
She looked up and smiled, it was a look of love that clearly took residence on her face. It hurt him. It shouldn't have done but it did. "Yep, can't get rid of him." Rose looked down at her hands, so did the Doctor. She had a wedding band on. "We got married, two months ago, you know. Left a seat for you, just in case."
"But I can't come back through here? I shouldn't be here now. Why would you leave a seat for me?"
"Cos you gave me him. Plus, you're my best friend still. That's our wedding photo, on there just behind the laptop." She pointed in the general direction of the laptop. He turned round and half shut the laptop, reaching behind it for the photo. He looked down seriously at it, opened his mouth, then a second later managed to say "You look beautiful." He knew he was struggling to conceal his emotions right now. He looked her in the eye. So was she. " I've gotta go. Mum might want me. Good luck with the rest of the research."
"Yeah, thanks." Rose got up and wandered out of the room. The Doctor's eyes burning into her back the entire way. She daren't turn round or look at him. She knew she'd burst out crying. Yes, she was happy with John. He was perfect. But seeing the Doctor, clearly so affected by the fact she had saved him a seat at her wedding and the fact she was married. Well, she just couldn't deal with it.
