The Plains

The town hall was filled with villagers. Their long noses made me laugh everytime I noticed them. Boy, I'm going to miss them! A villager in a purple cloak took a seat in a chair behind a large desk and read out my name, "Trist Ender, you have now turned sixteen and we are very glad of it." All the other villagers cheered. I even heard some crying. I guess their children went into the open and died. I don't know and, honestly, I just don't care. The villager continued, "You must now choose the area that you maye live in. Multiple people will live in the area you will pick, so be cautious when they are around. Also be alert for any monsters of the night. They will kill you if you let them. Now where do you want to live, Trsit?"

A large map dropped over the wall behind them, showing a rather small area compared to the rest of the world. There were five major sections. One of them was the desert I have lived in all my life. The second one was a forest area with a Taiga boime nearby. The third was a swamp what was pretty close to home. The fourth one was a large basin with lava all over the place. And the last one was a large plain with a small jungle near it. I had to choose one of them. I had to.

"So," The villager announced, "Which one is your choice?"

Then I blurted my own question, "Will I be able to visit?"

He glared at me, "Of course! Haven't you read the rules before you came in?"

"Honestly no. I was too nervous to read then..."

"Then choose!"

I know the first one is a no-no! I want to explore a little. The fourth one seems difficult, but then again, there is always light there, so I wouldn't have to worry about mobs, but the lava gave me the creeps. And a little voice in my head started screaming not to go, so that not a good idea either. The third one was too much for me to handle in three ways: too much water, too many places for skeletons to hide in, and I saw a witch's hut on the map, so, again, no. The second one was more promising, but so is the last one. But I noticed one thing about the last one. It had a forest on the edge of it, and a little snow was on the ground in the northern area, so this was it.

"I will choose the Plains!"

All of the crowd hushed. I know I was finished. I was done!

"The Plains it is. You would need to travel up north in order to get there. The Librarian by the door will give you the compass to get there. You will leave as soon as you can. Farewell and happy birthday!" It was settled. I started walking toward the door when the villager shouted, "WAIT! I forgot to tell you the population there. Population: 4, the least amount out of all the areas. You have chosen wisely."

"What was the highest?" I asked politely, turning around to face him.

"The highest is in the basin area. Good luck in the open!"

"Okay, thanks!" And I left.

I grabbed the compass and the villager whispered in my ear, "Good luck. And if you see anyone named Andrew, tell him his father said hi." That was it. People had their children taken away, sometimes never see them again. Now I know why I felt nervous about this in the first place. I might die in the first night!

Fifteen minutes later

----------------------------------------------

I was on the edge of the desert. I looked back one more time, only to see the very top of the town hall, only made of nothing but sandstone. I turned back to see the large forest before me. I stared into the forest of light brown and white. But then I noticed something fall out of one of the trees. Something red. An apple.

I laughed as I picked it up. I have never tasted an apple before, but when I did, it was so sweet I wanted more of it once I was done. The grass under my feet was scratchy, but then it was soft and silky as it flattened out under me. I played with it as I went along. I started to jog for a while and it didn't take my a while before I found a flat, grassy area that went all the way to the horizon. It was the plains biome. I started to look for any houses, but as I traveled, I saw something in the distance. Something small and white. It's a chicken!

I then started to creep over to it when I saw a few large figures in the corner of my eyes, making me look to the figures. A white stallion with a couple of mares were grazing nearby. I couldn't help but watch their beauty. I watched as they grabbed the grass with their strong teeth and their graceful steps as they walked nearby. Then a little pink appeared behind them, which was a pig with a saddle. Wait, what? A saddle? Did someone leave their pig or something?

I got up and the horses noticed me. One of the mares screamed and the stallion charged. I felt doomed. I forced my eyes open and promised myself that I would close them when he is almost close enough to run me over. he shortened the distance quickly with thundering hooves, but as this was happening, an arrow flew into the stallion's side. The stallion fell onto it's side and it made a bloody cry before becoming completely still. A man with a bow stood up from an area of tall grass and pointed his arrow at me. I put my hands up as he crept closer. Have I seen him before? His magenta shirt and black pants made me laugh in the inside, but then again, I was too scared to laugh out loud.

Then he bellowed, "Who are you!?"
