I looked up, the roars of Sampson and the screams of my team fading away. I watched the stars through the smoke fade together into a large light. I could hear a man's voice calling to me.
"Hamburg. Come closer."
I looked closer at the light to see Patterson standing, waiting at the gates of heaven. I was confused.
"Am I... dreaming?"
Patterson smiled and shook his head. He offered his hand.
"Your time here is done. Leave this hell with us Michael. It's finally over."
I smiled and reached for his hand but before I took it, I hesitated. I looked up at Patterson with tears filling my eyes. Patterson was confused, then nodded in understanding.
"I have to stay Lars. The people... my team... Ella... They all need me."
Patterson nodded in agreement.
"Then go. We can wait for you a little longer my friend."
I nodded, smiling. Then I frowned. "Lars."
He looked back at me. I saluted him.
"You'll always be my friend. And I'll never forget what you've done for me."
Lars saluted back. "Same goes for you Mike. Now get your ass back in there!"
I nodded then closed my eyes and woke back up.
