After I had gotten dressed, Ella took me to a large room, filled with people with white eyes that showed no pupils and had pale skin. They all took notice of me as I walked by them, not in a threatening way though. It was more like the way a dog would look at an abusive owner with a belt. Like I would hurt them. When I met their blank gazes, they would return with looking away and pretending to ignore me.
I looked to Ella in front of me "Why are they..."
Ella looked back at me. "Scared of you? Well you see, the last three years, the immune were looked at the same way as the deadies. As monsters. But answer me this, who is the monster? The one who looks like it, or the one that acts like it?"
I looked and saw a child without a jaw. Not decomposed, but it looked as if it had been torn off...
"Why would someone do this?"
Ella chuckled, "You mean like you almost shot my sister?"
My gaze shot back to her. She met it. I looked away, ashamed. Ella turned back, "It's all alright. You didn't know of our existence, obviously. Otherwise she would've been able to bring you here without my shovel."
I rubbed the bump on the back of my head in response to that. We reached the end of the room and walked into an office. A pale old man was laying in a chair. He was frail but his blank eyes somehow showed amazing playfulness. He smiled wide as we entered.
I looked to my side to see the girl from the roof. She waved at me, smiling. I waved back. Then the old man spoke,
"Ella. Mia. What have you brought us here?"
Ella looked to me. "A human male, grandfather. One that isn't trying to kill us."
The little girl, Mia, jumped in, "Anymore!" Then smiled at me as if that wasn't the slyest little comment.
The old man chuckled. He looked at me. "Come here my friend."
I came to the desk and the old man studied me. He turned to Ella,
"You do remember we can't reproduce, right? Or is he just for pleasure?" Pink flooded Ella's cheeks. Mia chuckled.
"No grandfather!" Ella exclaimed. "He's here to help us."
I looked at her in confusion. "What?"
The old man nodded. "As I thought. We need you human. We need your help if our kind is to survive."
