It was that time again. The Smosh Summer party. After how well their Christmas parties had gone, Ian decided that they should make it more than just a yearly thing. So the summer party was invented.

Usually it took place just before the summer games as a kind of way to get everyone together and morale boosted.

So, Ian opened his house to everyone who worked at Smosh that evening and they all gathered together and drank and danced and partied until the small hours of the morning.

Shayne had no desire to go this year, he was exhausted and frankly just emotionally drained. The only reason he was there was because a certain person called Courtney said she was going.

Upon entering Ian's place his mood lifted. All his friends surrounded him and with a few beers down the hatch he was feeling much better about it all.

The only thing was he hadn't seen Courtney yet.

She promised she was coming and he'd already seen Olivia and Sam and had a long conversation with them. Olivia even mentioned that Courtney was due to get there any second.

That was an hour ago.

Shayne was starting to lose hope that Courtney was ever going to come. It was past 11 now and she still wasn't here. Everyone else was wildly drunk and she'd be fully sober upon entering the room now.

So he sulked down onto a chair admiring everyone's drunk dance moves as the music turned up louder and temperature of the room gradually rose.

Then, suddenly there was murmur at the door and Olivia phone lit up, she left Sam with me on the sofa while she headed in the direction of the door.

From around the corner of entryway to Ian's place came Olivia and behind her, Courtney.

Shayne couldn't help but stare at the blonde striding in the room with a smile on her face.

Though he had a suspicion that the smile was forced, something wasn't right and she was trying to cover it up.

Her eyes locked onto Shayne and Sam sat together and instantly she felt at ease.

Courtney was dressed in a tight black dress and heels, her make up was perfectly done and her hair in neat waves around her face. Shayne admired how she always managed to look so flawless yet it probably took no effort at all.

"You made it huh?" Shayne remarked as Courtney perched on the edge of couch between Shayne and Olivia.

"Just about. Ugh what a day, my date ditched me at the last minute." Courtney was rubbing her hand through her hair.

"I didn't know you were seeing anyone." Sam had said which Shayne was glad he said so he didn't look like a jealous creep.

"This would have been our fourth date. He bailed and we're over. Nothing major but just damn annoying, you know?" She sighed. "I need a drink, anyone need anything?"

From Shayne's perspective he could tell she had already been drinking. From a distance he had admired her flawless appearance but now that there was only inches between them, it was clear she was upset. Her face looked tired and her makeup was ever so slightly smudged where tears stained her cheeks, but she had tried to cover it up.

Her manner was off too. That's how he knew she had already had at least one drink before getting here. Her words slurred ever so softly together and whilst Courtney tended to be an open book she wouldn't usually just admit to her friends she'd just been dumped. Alcohol was definitely already flowing through her.

Shayne stood immediately. "I'll come with you." He shook his empty can to signal he was also in need of a drink.

When they stood at the kitchen counter in Ian's place, Courtney made a quick concoction of several spirits in a red cup while Shayne reached for another beer out of the fridge.
