"Hello? Hyung?" "We are in the train now. We'll reach in another half an hour. Come to the station with the photo" Namjoon said. "Okay. Should a bring the car?" Jackson asked. "Yeah" Namjoon said.
"Okay, bye"
"Bye"Other than the phone call, the ride was a silent one. Namjoon was sure Yoongi was going to believe him by the end of the day. There was no way one wouldn't believe something that so many people would readily testify.
Yoongi, on the other hand, was having an internal battle.
On one hand, he wanted this to be true so that Namjoon and himself could get back together. He didn't want to keep going on with the revenge anymore. Not after seeing the phone number. He desperately wanted his best friend to come clean. He wanted to go back to the time when everything was fine between them. Because deep down, he never stopped loving him.
On the other hand, he didn't want to believe that Hyojoo, the girl that he had liked and loved for almost two years, was actually Namjoon's girlfriend. He desperately wanted Namjoon to be wrong, because he didn't want to think of the fact that he unknowingly cheated Namjoon by going out with his girlfriend. No matter how unjust Namjoon's action was, it would be himself who would have indirectly kindled it. He didn't want that to happen.
They got down and soon spotted Jackson waiting for them outside the station. "Do you guys want to go alone?" Jackson asked. "What are you going to do?" Namjoon asked. "I'll take a taxi. You guys first resolve it among yourselves, and then you can explain the situation to me. Okay?" Jackson asked. "Okaiie" Namjoon said as he caught the keys that his brother threw at him.
Yoongi stared out of the window as Namjoon drove to Doore Yoo. They went in and sat at the table that they usually used to sit at.
"Welcome to Doore Yoo. What would you like to order, sir?" a waiter asked them. "Please call someone who has been working here for more than seven years" Namjoon said. "Okay, sir" the waiter bowed down and went to the kitchen.
Yoongi tapped the table as he waited for someone to come. His anxiety was gradually increasing. "Here you go. This is Lisa" Namjoon said, handing Yoongi the photo that Jackson brought from his bedroom.
"I had it done two days before it happened. You really won't believe how excited I was to finally show you what my girlfriend looked like" Namjoon said.
Yoongi already felt like his head was going to burst open as he stared at the picture, but he still held on to the small hope that Namjoon somehow got hold of Hyojoo's picture and that the girl in the photo wasn't Lisa.
"Namjoon-ssi! Yoongi-ssi! Oh my god, it's been soo long!" a lady exclaimed as she walked towards their table.
"Oh my god, Mrs. Lee! I didn't know that you still worked here. How are you?" Namjoon asked, getting up to shake her hand while Yoongi simply got up and bowed to her.
"I am fine. Just a couple days back, five guys were looking at the photos, and they asked me about you guys. They even took pictures of your photos" she said. "Yeah, we know" Yoongi mumbled.
"Ajeomma, we really have a lot of work to do today, so we'll come back again to catch up with you. But for now, I need your help" Namjoon said. "Yeah, sure. What is it?" she asked. "Do you really remember everything from back then?" Namjoon asked. "Yeah, of course" she said.
"Then you remember my girlfriend, right?" Namjoon asked. "Yeah, I do. You brought her here a lot of times, didn't you?" she asked. "Yeah. So can you still identify her face?" Namjoon asked. "Yeah, I can" she said.
Namjoon looked at Yoongi, who immediately gave the photo to the lady. "Yeah, this is the same girl. Why are you asking me?" she asked.
"There was a bit of a misunderstanding between us, and I want your help in clearing it. She was my girlfriend, right? You remember it clearly, don't you?" he asked.
"Yeah, I remember very well. You brought her here too many times to forget it. You people even used to kiss each other all the time right outside the door. It was gross, but yeah, she was the one you used to bring here all the time. I remember" she said, looking at the two of them with confusion in her eyes.
"D-Do you remember the couple of times that I brought her here?" Yoongi asked, his voice hoarse and his hands trembling. "Yeah, I do. What's the matter?" she asked, still confused about the whole questionnaire.
"Then why didn't you tell me that she was Namjoon's girlfriend?" Yoongi asked. That was when it hit her. She finally understood the situation.
"Ahh, that! You both are very close, right? So I thought you casually brought her to the cafe as friends. I mean, friends of the couples keep doing that all the time. I didn't think anything else was going on. I really thought you came with her because you were 'her boyfriend's best friend'. I didn't think of anything else" she said.
Yoongi lost balance as the weight of all the information started sinking in. He fell back on his chair as he stared at the photo on the table. "Thank you, ajeomma! We'll get going, then" Namjoon said and took Yoongi to the park near the restaurant.
Namjoon and Yoongi sat down on a bench under the tree. "Hyun-" Namjoon started. "Don't call me hyung. I lost the right to hear that word from you" Yoongi said.
That was when the situation completely sank in. That was when Yoongi completely lost it. That was when he broke down. The emotions that he had buried within himself for the past five and a half years came rushing to the surface and he finally burst out.
