"Ah, Mitsukuni-kun! What can I do for you?" the brown-haired woman asked, her mercury-colored eyes gazing down at the smaller boy. The woman stood at an average hundred and sixty-five centimeters, she wore a pair of black sweatpants with a unicolor green t-shirt and had an apron with a cute pokemon face printed onto it.
Mitsukuni recognized the obnoxiously yellow figure as Pikachu.
He beamed at the older woman, showing off his pearly whites as well as his "childish innocence." He gave her a light giggle, Reiko was nowhere to be seen as he held his hands behind his back and balanced his weight from one foot to the other.
"Well," he drawled, eyes flickering to glance behind the woman. "I thought Aunty would feel lonely since Ma-chan went away," he justified with a toothy grin. His cheeks dusted themselves in light pink as if embarrassed, and he momentarily stared at the ground. His foot kicked a pebble, and he peeked up to steal a look at Karma's mother.
"Aww, how sweet," she cooed, leaning to pet Mitsukuni's fluffy head of strawberry blond locks, a habit from when he was younger. "You didn't have to," she added her voice laced with guilt, as she opened her door further to let the teen in.
"Excuse the intrusion," Mitsukuni whispered behind her as he stepped in. He closed the front door and slipped out of his sneakers before borrowing one of Karma's pair of slippers.
Miss Akabane merely glanced at the boy as she made her way into her house. "I was about to cook," she called out— the truth is she was lazing around. "Would you like to join me? Since you dropped by, we could bake some cookies?" she proposed as she rummaged through her cupboard to look for the necessary ingredients.
"Hehe, thank you, Aunty!" he beamed as he skipped to the taller woman. He knew Karma's mother was accommodating her day for him, and genuinely appreciated her for that. His heart twinged with guilt when he saw the smile on her face, his intentions weren't pure.
While he did worry for Karma's mother, he mostly came to snoop around while his childhood friend was away. He did think about climbing the hill up to class 3-E's building, but after some consideration decided against it. He could inquire about the facility later, when he had more leads, for instance.
In this way, while faking childishness, Mitsukuni accompanied Miss Akabane through the evening. They cooked and baked, tasted the freshly out of the oven chocolate chipped cookies with some milk. It was overall, an enjoyable evening.
"You can stay as long as you want Mitsukuni, don't forget to lock the door if you go, I have some things to do in the neighborhood," Miss Akabane called out as she stood up to climb the stairs and change out of her homeware. Minutes later, Mitsukuni saw her in a pair of light blue jeans and a polka-dotted dress shirt. "You can always call me if there's anything, alright?" she reminded as she grabbed her purse and keys before slipping on her coat and exiting the room.
