Chapter 1: The hunt
16 years later....
Luna's POV- I take life, and I give it. But my favorite part of my job is the hunt. The wind in my face, wings, and hair. As I sore through the sky, watching. I see my prey and immediately, the rush, as I call it, kicks in. The feeling I get right as I start the hunt. I can feel the exhilaration pumping through my veins, and the anticipation starts to tingle in my fingers. I swoop down on my prey like a falcon would a chickadee. I drop to the ground nimbly, and fold my wings behind me. It's so hard to run with my wings splayed out, and most of the time, I have to run. My prey always runs from me. There are very few occasions they don't run. So as my prey spots me, they spin and run the other direction. I bounce on the balls of my feet as I always do, just to make it slightly challenging. I let them get ahead enough, then I speed of after them. Running swiftly and easily through the trees. I always send my prey to my dimension. So at least the get to see something nice before they die, and so that way no one sees me killing. I laugh as they stumble over the roots and branches of one of the many forests here. I'm quickly gaining on them. They knew from the moment they ran that it was only slightly prolonging their death. That it was a very feeble attempt. They just won’t admit it. I can feel it coming. The final stroke. Their final breath. I hear it slip from their lips. Then I'm on them, and their life is over.
I watch as the body women in front of me starts to change from 16 back to 82. The age she was before I turned back her life. I do that for everyone. So then they are at the peak of there life again as they die. I watch as she slowly disappears like all the rest of them do. I don't know where they go. I have always wondered it though. I mean is there another dimension? A spirit dimension? If there is can only ghosts go there? Is that where my mother is? Or is there a dimension of death for each species? Can they come back to the other dimensions? Would we be able to see them? I push these thought away as I hear the soft beat of wings behind me. "You know," says a familiar voice, "if I were normal I would find it, very, very, disturbing that you enjoy your job. So disturbing in fact that I would probably lock you up in a mental institute."
I laugh at Alec's comment. "But your not normal Alec!" I say to him. As I stand and turn to face him. All of a sudden Alec is in my face looking like he wants to kill me.
"You want to say that again little girl?"
I laugh at him again, "Alec you couldn't even beat me up if you tried! And besides I'm only 2 years younger than you!"
"Age is just number."
I laugh again. "Alec you just contradicted yourself."
He face drops in shock. "Damn." Is all he says.
I shove Alec for like the billionth time as we fly through the air. He then shoves me back. I stop flying, and wait for him to realize that I'm now just hovering. He looks back at me confused. "What?"
"Oh well. I was hopping you would try to shove me again and the go crashing to the ground when you didn't bump into me!" I shrug, and laugh at his angered expression. He comes back to where I'm hovering and using his hands he shoves. "Dude, it's not nice to shove a girl!" I tell him with sarcasm tainting my voice. He growls at me. "Oh now that's just rude, Alec!" I say to him with fake pain.
"Okay look, Luna. Once we get on the ground, lets go. you and me..."
I shake my head and interrupt him, "It's 'you and I' not 'you and me'." I say.
He snarls at me again, "Whatever, you and I then, are going to have a fight. No powers, or weapons. Just hand to hand combat."
"Oh what, you afraid to fight a girl in the air?" I ask him teasingly.
