Chapter 10: Chase
“Welcome to Base,” Ray announced as he led me into the labyrinth beneath the Washington Monument.
It was ridiculously awesome how we had to go through scans and all of the password code before taking an elevator down into the ground. Since the elevator was made of glass, I can see people moving around offices and some sitting on a computer with an earpiece on.
“This level is where we have people watching our operatives in case of emergency,” Ray gestured to the man who seems to be talking onto his headset and watching the screen where an agent looks like he’s climbing onto a building.
“How do you even see them?” I asked Ray incredulously.
“We can hack onto any security cameras, or anything for the matter,” Ray said nonchalantly like he’s just commenting on the weather.
“Wow,” I breathed.
Ray looked at me and laughed, nodding.
“It’s hard to believe that Andi trained and live in here all her life, right?” he asked me and my heart ached over her name.
“Yes, but then again, I’m not surprised,” I murmured and Ray nodded.
The elevator continued to go down a level and stopped. The door opened, and Ray walked out, with me following hesitantly along. Once I walked out, I looked around me in total bewilderment. The room was huge, with sterile walls and floors will guys and girls around my age bench pressing, lifting weights, running, and sparring on a blue mat. It looks like a training room. Off to the left side, I can see a bullet proof window where some were shooting with many varieties of guns. To the right side was another bullet proof window where some were throwing knives at dummies.
When I walked pass the people that were training, they gawk, but I ignored them. Mostly the girls were staring with a scary gleam in their eyes, and I tried my best to ignore them.
Ray gestured me to follow him and I complied, as he led me to a guy who looked like he was eighteen, lifting the weights.
“Chase, this is David, one of our best recruit,” Ray announced and David looked at me with a friendly smile.
“Hey, man, how’s it going?” he asked, giving me a handshake which I returned.
“Good, you?” I asked politely, with a smile.
He shrugged and said, “Good, thanks.”
Ray looked satisfied and he turned to David, “I want you to show Chase around and help him get settled in. Then you start training him.”
David nodded and Ray turned to me, “David will answer any questions and will show you to your room. Good luck, Chase.”
I thanked him and Ray left, leaving me with David. I turned back to him and he grinned, “Come on. Let’s me show you around.”
We walked around as he showed me the cafeteria, the changing room, the showers, and finally the hallway to where our bedrooms were located. Throughout the whole time, I found out that David was a pretty cool dude. He was friendly, and popular amongst the girls, even though we can’t really hook up in here.
“So any questions?” he asked me and I shook my head.
“Alright, then. Let’s get you change, so we can start training you,” he suggested and I nodded.
We walked into the changing room, and he led me to a locker where there were clean training clothes. It was a pair of sweats and a t-shirt, which I immediately changed into and followed David out. He led me into the biggest room where people were punching and kicking dummies, and once again, every girl in the room turned their eyes to me.
