III: The Rebellion

24 Years ago the Elation was in a far different state than it was when Jasmyne Costa left it for her negotiations on Andale. At this time she was only a young girl. She would run back and forth the deck of her father's little merchant shop every morning, playing with the other children that lived on her deck. Life was simple, life was fun.

The Elation had come further south than it ever had before. There were rumors that the way of life may be a big rougher closer to the equator but the weather was much better than the cold of the northern waters. The children could play on deck even into the night. The weather was much more forgiving. The Elation was forced to go further south as the fishing was getting more difficult than it had been all previous years. The poor planning of food rationing was one of the many mistakes the young Captain Osiris had made which resulted in this risky journey south.

All seemed to go well for the time being. There had been the occasional bandit attack here and there but the Elation was beyond well equipped to handle any attack from a boat clan. It wasn't long until it came though. A military cruiser, without warning bombarded the Elation.

The Elation may have been heavily armed, but it wasn't a military cruiser style of ship. It was a privatized cargo ship in the world before the great flood. All the Elations had were their guns. They fought back with as much muster as they could. The cruiser, remembered only as the Rampage, continued to flak and bombarde the Elation. The civilians of Elation, rallied to fire back. The Elation couldn't win in a traditional ship battle. The Elations invaded with the use of smaller boats and boarded the Rampage. The bandits were not expecting such a fierce fight. Ultimately, the Elation was victorious. With the use of satchel charges planted from within by Elations, The Rampage sunk as the young Captain Osiris watched from the bridge of the Elation.

The heroes of the battle were Clint Graham, Daniel Breeding, and Kiefer Wake. They boarded the attacking ship and planted the charges. The cruiser sunk, and the Elation was still afloat. There was no time to cherish the victory though. However, their home was crippled. The Elation would not start, and the lights would not work. All the food in storage went bad within a week. The plumbing didn't work. Nothing could be cleaned.

Captain Osiris watched at his world collapsed. He was able to get an SOS out just as the cruiser came within range. The Elation was doomed. For a while the Elations stayed faithful. Captain Osiris assured that there would be aid. He assured that there would be salvation. This lasted for five weeks.

The people started to get hungry. The people were tired of living amongst each other's waste. They were tired of ships off in the distance, at night with their lights shining bright, ignoring them because their lights were off. Captain Osiris wasted all his flares early on.

The people grew to begin to hate the upper deck privileged aristocrats who were still well fed. The Captain's family, the advisors, prominent leaders, including merchants, like Jasmyne's family. After two months the revolt started.

The common people of the Elation rallied behind Clint Graham and Kiefer Wake, the heroes of the Elation. The people knew that while Captain Osiris shuddered on the bridge, these were the men that led the attack to save their people. But Captain Osiris had the support of the people in power. With promises of wealth and privilege, Captain Osiris was able to create a force himself.

Graham and Wake simply sold the idea for whoever wanted to leave in search of help and a new home should be able to. This would leave the rest of the population without boats to leave though. Captain Osiris would not allow it. Either everyone on the Elation would die together, or they would thrive together. Civil war commenced and half of all the men on the Elation were dead by the end of the 2nd week.
