"Ms. Charlotte Halpert why do I have to say your name more then everyone else in this class?" Mr. Howard questions me as I take my seat. "That's a good question." I scold myself in my head for even daring to talk back to Howard, she's creepier then my sleep paralysis demon.
"Go to the office."
"But I didn-"
"Go."
I once again scold myself, definitely not a good way to start my birthday.
I make the short but droning walk to the front office. I haven't been here before so this will be a great new experience. Lucky me that there's a long line of students already here.
"Halpert?"
"Yeah?" I say and look up from being in my own little world, I would put zoning out on special skills list while in an interview. "Who sent you down here?" the councilor asked as we sat across from each other. "Howard."
"That's what I was going to guess, your free to go."
And like that i'm out. It wasn't my first time being there because of the sleep paralysis demon. While I'm walking into the lunch room I run into someone, and the special skill strikes again.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" I notice he's spilled his lunch onto his hoodie. "It's ok I have another one, and it's my fault I should've known your clumsy Charli." Grayson, my second guy best
Grayson and me met about half way through the 7th grade, he was the last to join our friend group, if you could even call 4 friends a group. Me and Ollie have been friends since before I could remember, and then we met Kasia in the 6th grade when Oliver's family started to foster her and then adopted her. And as you know Grayson was the last to join us.
"Ok well I'll see you at the table." I reply. As I walk over to our usual spot with my awful school lunch. I'm welcomed by an argument between Kasia and Oliver.
"Why do you get your own car? I'm older!" Oliver whines, Kasia has just turned 16 about a month ago and her family bought her a used car and not Ollie. I laugh as I sit down, "Because I can drive better! Last time you borrowed moms car you almost crashed!" Kasia replies with a mouthful of her cafeteria mystery meat, every time they serve it I think of that weird scene from Good Luck Charlie. "Ok, first of all Oll she has a point, and second how can you eat the school food it's so gross!" I say as I sit down and start digging in to my taco Tuesday meal. "Look who's talking!" Oliver says as he gets up and dramatically walks away.
"Thanks Charli, he's been bugging me all day about the car. I don't know how you deal with driving him every morning." She says as she finishes eating.
"I mean he's like my best friend, even though all he always talks about Carli Caltaski. Don't forget that time he tried to ask her out!" I say as I let out my awkward snort/laugh. I hate that I do it, I sound like Ms. Congeniality. But hey, if only I was her. She stopped a bomb, I don't think I could ever do that.
We meet up with Grayson as me and Kas part ways, "So did you study for the English test?" I ask as we step into class. "What test?" He says as I chuckle and point to the white bored where in big black letters 'QUIZ TODAY, WORTH 20 POINTS' is written.
"Why didn't you call or text, or anything? He whines, in all honesty I forgot tell lunch.
"Because it isn't as fun then." I tease. In all honesty if he wasn't still in the stained hoodie I wouldn't feel so bad for forgetting.
"Did you guys here about the newest attack?" a kid in the back of the class started talking to his other friend.
A attack wasn't something new, barely just gossip anymore. The Specials (and I think that's a awful name choice), have been stoping them for years. The newest generation took over recently, fingers crossed they do better then the millennials.
"Imagine how cool it would be to have a super gene?" Another kid comments, these kids have dreamed about it since we where little but it's a little late now. We study the super genes in biology, in family's with the gene it stays unresponsive in the carriers body until around the age of 16 to fully mutate. Most people with it never develop powers because the gene only has a 12% chance of being responsive to the body by the age of 8. Tons of kids decide to go into science just to try and activate the gene inside them but it never really works. The mutation only started about a century ago so not many discoveries have been made.
That was just the short version of it.
The bell chimes and lucky enough for me I only have electives left for the day.

I pull into my drive way as I slip of my shoes and hurry up stares to start on my homework. AGT is on tonight and it's the first round of the live shows, I never miss it and I plan not to.
It's a few hours later as I finish my homework I remember the envelope. I walk back outside to my car to grab it then head back into my room. "Be back down soon honey! The show starts in 5!" My mom yells from the living room. "K, I'll be right down." I put my long brown hair in a messy bun and start to rub my eyes to stay awake. It may be basic to have long brown hair but I chopped it off in sixth grade and it's taken many years to grow it back so i'm very proud of it. I look into the mirror to see my mascara smudged across my face. I look like a ugly raccoon. I sigh as I wipe the rest of my makeup off and open the envelope. I really need to get something better then makeup wipes, I heard they're awful for skin.
I through it into the trash bin and stand to get up. The room spins like i'm in a creepy carnival ride. I grab onto my desk for any sturdy surface.
And then it all stops.
I have to say with how my life is that's the cheesiest thing that's happened.
