RICKY'S POV
"yo, big red?"
"yessir?"
"i'm gonna do it man."
"gosh, ricky, that's so vague. you need to tell me what you're gonna do because i can't just magi- ohhhhh you're gonna do that."
i nodded, pulling a kick flip and sticking the landing.
"are you sure she's ready, man?" big red asks, concern lacing his voice.
"i'm not sure." i sigh. "never mind, i'm not gonna do it. i'm waiting for her, not vice versa. she's the one that has to give me the go for it. if i ask her to be my girlfriend before that, she'd probably feel forced, wouldn't she."
"do i look like i know anything about girls?" big red scoffed. "but honestly, you seem to be doing the right thing according to wikihow."
i chuckle, skating down the silver ramp in front of me. it's been four weeks since nini and i have been in the 'like' zone, and everyday has been better than the last. we've hung out almost every day after school, and honestly, she knows me better than anybody in the world. above everything, she's literally my best friend. i've told her things i've never told anyone. i have even opened up to her about my parents, which i never talk about to anybody. her moms have literally become the mom i've been lacking for the past year.
i have been DYING to ask nini to be my girlfriend since... well.... i kinda lost track of time but it's been a while. i have everything planned out and it's gonna be perfect. if it ever happens that is.
"you know, dude, how about i just take her on a date." i chirped.
nini and i have been on a couple dates, outings, whatever you call it. whenever i'm not spending time with her, i'm spending time with big red (which has been awesome by the way). i love my dad, really i do. but it's just not the same coming home and remembering that my mom is 1,399 miles away from me doing who knows what. she's missed nearly every one of my calls and never responds to texts. when she does answer calls, she always has to leave within like 15 minutes for some weird reason. raccoons in the attic (even though she's at a hotel) pizza guy is there (she can't talk and eat??), she has to go into work, busy day and she's tired, or her favorite show is on. yes, she's hung up on me for criminal minds.
"oh! idea!" i exclaim suddenly, causing big red to fall off his board and onto the hard concrete. "how about i take her to the drive in!"
"the drive in?" red questions.
"yeah! i can ask my dad if i can borrow his truck, and then take her to the drive in." i grinned "they are playing grease this week anyways. it's a classic." classic musical. digusting.
"dude, how can you drive anyway. you're a freshman."
i hesitate. "i'm old? i guess? i don't know for some reason i'm legally allowed to drive."
big red shrugs and stands back onto his board. "a date sounds good, my man. you really know how to treat her right."
i smile brightly. i was taking my favorite girl on a date. but first...
why the heck was i allowed to take a drivers test?!
NINI'S POV
Thursdays disgust me. Why might you ask? They are in between Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday is directly in the middle of the week and Fridays are the day before the weekend, and Thursdays are just a boring, awkward day filled with longing for the end of the week.
So here I sit, on a Thursday, after school, in drama rehearsal, watching the leads as i am sitting in a chair labeled "tree". because that is me. i am a tree.
