You are the reason

The day my life changed forever

I gripped my bump and hissed in pain. I wrote down the time and saw from the other times on my PADD that there was a definite trend. 3 minutes apart for the past 20 minutes. It was finally happening. I grabbed my communicator and activated it.

"Dr. Boyce, its Megan. I'm on my way to sick bay- it's time."

"We'll be ready for you."

I disconnected before immediately contacting Chris.

"Counsellor Pike to the Captain."

"Is everything alright Megan?"

"It's time."

"I'm on my way. Can you get to sickbay?"

"Yes, I'll see you there."

I disconnected my communicator, grabbed my bag and made my way out the door. Half way down the corridor, I stopped and gripped my stomach as another contraction took over.

"Megan, are you alright?"

I looked up and saw Una rushing to me. She grabbed the bag from me and wrapped an arm round me. As soon as the pain subsided, we started walking again. As soon as we arrived, Chris and Dr. Boyce rushed over. Chris wrapped one arm round my back, tucked the other under my legs and lifted me up. I let out a little squeal of surprise.

"Chris, I can walk you know." I said as he carried me to a biobed.

"I do." He said, grinning at me.

He helped me to the biobed where I quickly got changed into a hospital gown before lying down. As soon as I was comfortable, Dr. Boyce connected me to various pieces of equipment and scanned me.

"Good news Megan, youre fully dilated. On the next contraction, I need you to push." Dr Boyce said.

I looked up at Chris, tears forming in my eyes.

"You ready for this?" he asked me, gripping my hand tightly.

"Yeah."

I suddenly felt an intense contraction and I gritted my teeth in pain. I felt Chris' other hand come to my shoulder, squeezing it lightly.

"Alright Megan, push."

I pushed as hard as I could for what seemed like hours. It wasn't long before I began to tire. Chris could obviously see this, so he placed a kiss on my forehead and leaned down to me.

"You can do this sweetheart. I believe in you."

"Listen Megan, the baby's head is out, so one more push should do it." Dr. Boyce said, smiling at me.

I nodded and as soon as the next contraction hit me, I pushed and seconds later, a loud wail filled the room. I immediately relaxed and smiled. I looked to Chris and he had the biggest grin on his face. Not long after, a beautiful baby girl was placed in my arms.

"Oh baby, hi there." I said, smiling down at her.

I felt Chris sit down beside me and wrap his arms tightly around me.

"What are we going to name her?" Chris asked.

"I think Lilly."

He smiled and replied, "Lilly is perfect."
