Chapter 2

" Do you think they will like me? " I couldn't help, but ask the nerves were getting to me.

" My mom will, she always liked handsome men. My GrandMa you have to work on. She will probably say nothing to you because of the language barrier, but she'll probably bleed my ears." she smiled. she was actually excited about this. I could see her eyes shining she had missed them so much. All the talk on our dates was about her family. " My brothers are too nice to say anything to you, but I'll probably hear it from them" she had a playful scowl. "And my sister ... she's unpredictable." and she rolled her eyes. She was too honest sometimes.

My girl is Ethiopian. She is religious and very family-oriented. She loves her family so much it's admirable. She has 1 older sister and 2 older brothers. She is the youngest in her family. I had proposed to her last week for which she had answered,

"It's not up to me. That's a decision my family makes"

It is a tradition in Ethiopia whenever spouses agree to get married the male sends the elders of his family to the female's house and they will ask a hand in marriage for him. After a series of questions and after a few visits the family will give the answer which is usually yes. Well, that's what she has assured me.

" So when are you sending your friends?" I asked. Since I wouldn't be able to send my families over to hers, she had asked her friends to act like the elders I sent. I am actually sad I couldn't do that much for her but with all the cultural and language difference I had no choice.

" I don't know. I have to at least give them a heads up that I'm seeing someone. And you're staying at our place so they will see what I see. Don't worry too much. " She said and pecked my lips. "And please bae not too much affection in front of my family. They don't like PDA." She said and laughed when I frowned.

"Ladies and Gentlemen we have arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Please stay seated in your seats and buckle your seatbelt. we are now landing in Bole International Airport. I hope you had a wonderful flight and wish you luck in your voyages. This has been your pilot Hiskesiyas Abayneh Thank You." Ethiopian airlines were really on another level. I loved the pretty hostesses and their services it was honestly a pleasant flight, especially with her.

" Did he say Hiskesiyas I know the pilot. " She suddenly said excitedly. I looked at her confused so she could explain more. " He was my senior in high school and university." she started calling for the hostess and my jealousy started to kick in. even I was surprised with what I was going to say.

" So did you go to the same university as him because he went there" I didn't even understand what I was saying.

"You're silly" she said and brushed me off. Just then the hostess came " Can I meet with the pilot its someone I know. Just a brief hello will do, please." she said and continued her conversation in Amharic.

Amharic is the national language or the working language of Ethiopia. Ethiopian is a very diverse country with more than 80 languages and 10 nations and nationalities, but most of

Ethiopians are familiar with Amharic even my girl can speak only Amharic. Ethiopia is a huge country at least 5 times bigger than South Korea. The states in the country are governed by their own constitution and the federal constitution. Since Addis Ababa is the capital and seat of power it's governed by the federal consititution and not part of any state as well as a region called Dire Dawa.

"I'll say a quick hello and come back" she said and bounced off her seat and left with the hostess when we landed. " Oh and it was a coincidence. And he is the brother of one of my classmates. Don't think too much about it." she said and runoff. She knew me too well by now.

" She could have at least introduced him to me." I said while I was getting our luggage out.
