THE BRIGHT RAYS OF SUN that came through the curtains early in the morning made the dim room that belonged to Ara Elladora Black appear larger. When her small feet touched the old wooden floor it made an all too familiar creaking sound to the sixteen year old girl. Her head was pounding as she made her way to the small golden framed mirror standing on her desk. The dark circles under her stormy grey eyes only confirmed she hadn't slept that night. Brushing her black curly hair, the thoughts that kept her up went through her head once again. Her reflection not helping her in any way to blank out her thinking, she resembled her twin brother too well.

She wasn't angry nor sad because he had left her in this household. She just felt numb.

Though knowing she could have left with him to find a new place to call home, she couldn't. Imagining what would happen to her younger brother, Ara didn't have the heart to leave him, not with her cruel parents.

She knew she would be punished for her older brother's actions. But as long as Regulus was safe, which really was not the right word to use when you talk about the noble and most ancient house of Black, she was okay. Ara just zoned out when her mother Walburga screamed at her because she wasn't properly dressed for dinner or when her father Orion insulted her for talking when she wasn't talked to.

It was normal for her to get scolded here and there for making mistakes, but since he left and their parents disowned him it became worse. She didn't blame him. If she needed to live through what he dealt with every day, she would've left the second she got a chance to as well.

Being told to be more like your sister, quiet and not talking about things she wouldn't understand in her parents' mind, every time you state your opinion on something that obviously didn't fit the mindset of a pureblood, isn't something Ara liked to imagine.

But now that the scapegoat wasn't here anymore, Walburga and Orion needed to find someone else to take out their anger on. And who would fit better than his twin sister, they thought.
